I really don’t get the reasoning for full pardons rather than just commutations for those reasonably seen as overcharged.
Doing this communicates something - and it’s nothing good.
But…what else would we expect? Trump thinks they were railroaded. They were not.
Only 30 percent of all Americans supported pardons for these criminals. Only a bit over half of Republicans did - no doubt the MAGAs who no longer consider law and order a priority. This is burning a ton of Trump’s political capital on his first day. Very bad decision.

Only a handful out of 1,500 are convicted of seditious treason. Hundreds of others were convicted of interfering with government operations which SCOTUS said was a wrongful application of the statute.

I am insisting that the government strictly adhere to its own rules and not bend, expand, or wink at them because many hate Trump. . If we allow even a modicum of variance, we are all f*cked.
1417 people charged so far in connection with the Jan. 6 invasion, only 346, or 24 per cent, were charged under the obstruction statute. Of that 346, 128 defendants were convicted by a jury of obstruction and another crime, most often another felony, which would still stand.

We will not agree on this. What happened on J6 and by Trump and cronies prior to it is a disgrace. These J6 convicts are criminals. There is nothing heroic about them. I’m a Republican because I still align with more Republican policies than not and don’t align with Democrats on much of anything, but this, Trump, and MAGA culture make it very hard. It’s a disgrace. It’s an embarrassment to see it defended by fellow Republicans. Especially guys like you when we’ve been aligned on most things for 20+ years here. Enjoy the victory, but keep in mind that no one has a duty to agree with or defend everything our President says or does.

What those 51 intel vets did was a disgrace. It’s these sorts of things that do damage to the credibility of our critical institutions.
And, to make it worse, I’m not aware of a single one of them who expressed even a smidgen of remorse when it became undeniably apparent that the laptop was genuine.
Keep in mind, the FBI had possession of the hard drive fully 10 months when this letter was published. That means they’d already done a forensic analysis of it. And the DNI made it clear that they had no reason to believe it was Russian disinformation.
However, whose word was going to be taken? Trump DNI John Ratcliffe’s…or 51 longtime intel veterans including numerous CIA directors from administrations of both parties?
The latter, of course. Except, in this instance, Ratcliffe was correct and they were not.
The whole thing was disgraceful. And their attorney’s defense? That they were acting under their 1st Amendment rights. As if that’s the problem here.
Given the history of what happened here, I’m fine with that.
I’d guess that their attorney will have a hard time arguing that the 1st amendment protects their right to a security clearance - particularly when they were recklessly peddling a lie to influence an election and besmirching the credibility of the intelligence community in the process.
Let’s shine more light on what they did…even if they prevail. These people deserve having their reputations ruined.

Sometimes I wonder why I even bother to post. I opposed Trump with my checkbook, my vote and with posts on this forum during the 2024 primary season. I severely criticized his 2020 post election behavior and said all who violated the law on J6 should be prosecuted. The prosecutors must strictly adhere to the rules. You are well aware of all of this.
But when it came down to it, I’m very pleased Kamala is not President. You should agree and ought to say so. 2/3’s of the country said we were on the wrong track with Biden. I’m one of that majority. Trump was the only antidote for the Democrat disaster. But he does have side effects.
I still don’t know what “MAGA culture” is. We have discussed this before but IIRC all I got was isolationism and unwillingness to compromise. I don’t think either describes Trump. In fact, Trumps position about Canada, Greenland, and Panama are the opposite if isolationism and are very progressive positions.

Probably not. I said that it should have been covered by all the press. It was covered by Fox and was all over social media. It was known of. I sincerely fail to see how it would have changed to 2020 election. Years later it still only proves Hunter was an addict and sleazebag.
