The Triple B

Bah, I thought you were talking about the pewter figurines from the late 1970's through the early 1980's. I have dozens of those packed in their original boxes in the man(child) cave/home office.

I actually don’t have a problem with this bill. It could be much worse from a Dem point of view. I’m not a fan of the Medicaid and Obama Care provisions, but my biggest negative by far is the obsession Republicans have with big tax cuts. We are the richest country in the world. We all like the safety net some programs provide. Grow up and pay for them, ffs.
Long term revenue the past 50 years has been consistent as a percentage of GDP. The only change is government spending has increased and neither party will raise taxes to pay for it.

Need pics of all of them.

Painted?

Do you think me a fool? No I didn't paint them!!! Send you pics of them, ALL of them? You've already admitted to casing and planning a heist of Masa's compound. I also played/collected Magic The Gathering from Alpha through Fallen Empires too, I suppose you want to see pics and a detailed accounting of that too?

DO NOT PAINT OR CLEAN ANYTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LEAVE IT AS IS!!!!!!!!!

GOD WHERE THE FCK IS CRAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LOL!

I was fascinated by those things in the late 70s early 80s. My dad took me to a gaming “convention” in Elkhart in something like 1980. I saw these guys war gaming large scale battles with those figurines and then sat in a competitive tournament with a dungeon crawl using them. I was ten. Think I died within ten minutes from some stupid trap.

But I bought and tried to paint those things for a few years. Was never really good at it and had no one to play it with anyway.

Damn it, I might end book club and go search for a D&D club to finally satiate my inner 10 yr old’s desires.

"They have forgotten their landslide loss in the Presidential Election,..."

1.5% margin of victory is a landslide? 2.3 million votes out of 152.3 million votes is a landslide?

Biden isn't the only delusional president.
Great!
Now do the popular vote..

ha! we had a game store next to ben franklin and a pizza shop. in the front they had two games. pole position. and dragon's lair. dragon's lair was ridiculous cutting edge at the time AND took two quarters.

in the center of the room was a huge table where people were playing d&d. and then behind that another massive table where guys were playing war games

I miss the nerd days of the 1970's through the early 90's quite a bit. I used to play D&D in the 70's to mid 80's but then discovered girls, beer and soft drugs and set gaming aside for a bit. Got married and picked it back up a few years later, then MTG card game for a few years. Life gets busy, but they were good times.

Oh I know Marv .... they don't have the balls to do anything.

Strangely to many I am the radical leftist and I have often suggested a freeze, even a 1% cut and freeze, until the economy grows into the budget

Of course then I wouldn't just hand out massive tax cuts to offset.

And of course that doesn't touch the big problem, Social Security and Medicare

You’re not a radical leftist to me. Largely very measured. And I run the largest conservative PAC and militia on this board

Much as I have advocated. And SS is not hard to fix. Medicare will require some sacrifice.

I find myself confused. Seemingly every congressional Democrat is on tv this week talking about how Trump just effectively killed Medicaid.

And then I come here and our left wing posters are lambasting him for a bill that does nothing of significance to attempt to lower the deficit.

Someone. Anyone. Please square that circle for me. Medicaid is a rather large expenditure is it not?

Trump should have made cuts to Medicare? We saw what happened when DOGE went after discretionary spending, Democrats flipped, so obviously we’re not allowed to cut there. Would democrats be supportive of cuts to entitlements?

Are the left of center posters here really advocating that we should have let the tax cuts expire? I’ve been told we’re teetering on brink of recession as it is. Passing what would amount to one of the largest tax hikes in U.S. history surely would have pushed us over the edge. How are we going to address the deficit then?

Left wing pretzel logic is so fascinating.

Trump should have made cuts to Medicare and raised the SS eligibility age? We saw what happened when DOGE went after discretionary spending, Democrats flipped, so obviously we’re not allowed to cut there. Would democrats be supportive of cuts to entitlements?

I'll give it a shot:

The grand total of the BBB's savings from healthcare: $790 billion. Yay!

The total spent on tax cuts: $3.85 trillion. Boo!

$3.85 trillion is more than $790 billion. Over 4 times more.

and they're unteachable. that's the worst of it. so often i ask myself what are we doing. is it that they don't want to learn. can't learn. some combination of both

These aren’t new tax cuts though for the most part. They’re simply an extension of the status quo. Letting them expire would have caused a recession or depression with near certainty.

No taxes on tips/OT/SS is new. Increasing the SALT cap is new.

As far as extending the TCJA cuts, their expiration was one of the ways the TCJA was sold as being "paid for" in the first place. So making them permanent undermines the original talking point on that. And yes, over the long term I'd rather have a recession over the next 2 years than an untenable fiscal situation in 10 years.

DOGE: I'm not against cuts. I'm against the executive branch deciding to not spend the money Congress passed & the got signed into law. Let Congress do their job. If they won't and people care, elect new congressmen.

Entitlements: Make changes.

It's going to hurt to get our house in order. There NEEDS to be tax increases & spending cuts. It's going to be very painful. That's why the $1T deficits during the first Trump administration were so frustrating. They were just unnecessary. Quite frankly, he just wants to keep the economy goosed so he can take credit for it. That's why the BBB benefits stop and burdens begin in 2029. He'll be out of office and the problem for the next guy. The rub is that the next guy is going to do the same thing and a law that scores as a $4T deficit increase over 10 years will end up being like a $8T.

At some point we have to pay our bills.

Your first two sentences are just semantics. If they aren't "new," then why is legislation required?

You'll excuse me if I take long-term economic predictions of severe calamity with a huge grain of salt. Every time some policy or another is to be implemented, one side or the other yells "Recession!" "Depression!" Hell, we heard it about a month ago re tariffs, didn't we? And one of the responses from the right was "a recession now might not be the worst thing in the world, and less important than long-term stability."

Do you apply this to CBO projections as well?

Once again revenue went up as a percentage of GDP during Trump's 1st term. Also, I know I am a broken record, but the U.S. government does not have to pay it's bills through tax increase or spending cuts. They can do it through inflation (or AI miracle) and it's the path they have chosen (that was also the path after WWII and 1970s). Covid made it obvious what path they're choosing. Use the information and protect yourself.

Agree on the apparent plan to inflate the debt away.

The St. Louis fed charts don't say receipts went up as a % of GDP.

Yep, My bad. I was wrong. I got my years mixed up. They went up the year after he left. One thing I do want to point out about all these scoring predictions, nobody ever comes back and checks how accurate they are. In 2017 tax receipts were 16.9% of GDP and in 2024 they were 16.85% of GDP. In other words the 1st tax bill has been basically budget neutral. Even though they predicted it would add 2 trillion over 10 years.

All I’ll say is this: I had a Senior VP, early in my career, tell me; “Kid, have you rehabilitated yourself?” - no, no, no, wait, different story - “Kid, you can’t/don’t save your way to Plan; you sell your way to Plan.”

Cut corporate taxes. Trash some of the stupid regulations. More tax incentives for buildings and machinery. Etc. Etc. Etc.
