Another stellar coaching job. Maybe we needed to pay MM and Rice more so they could hit their shots. The missed lay up pretty much seals the season. Why wasn’t Goode inbounding and getting it back for the 3? I’m sure I’ll take a hit for this but good riddance to sleepy Mike and MM (just go into the portal please).

No hit from me.
No sir.

The money does not make them grown men with basketball IQ’s.
The money does not buy a staff that leads them as a unit and creates a culture of winning.

The infatuation with our “financial attributes” will keep us losing for another generation.

It’s 5 on 5 fellas. With a little guidance from the bench. Not hard. Simple actually.

Buy if you buy horses (both coaches and players) — that big head/walnut brain ratio is and always will be decidedly equine. Look it up.

Horses ain’t big on culture.

Culture will win and maybe even fill the balcony on a Friday with a real team ( Blue Blood?) in town. Sparse.

But we’ve been educated today that our eyes deceive.

It was full.
Lovers on V -Day.
Haters on any day.
All clamoring for and paying for obstructed views of marginal basketball.
It’s never not been full and energized.

Sell that narrative and ignore all above.

See where it gets us.

It was a nicely drawn up play, and i thought the same thing, why wasn't that play for Goode.

FYI, it wasn't full on the 14th. The usual student balcony was nearly empty...again.

See my guidance on how to fix that...and perhaps pay better attention to your 19" RCA.

Either one is a viable option there. Both good shooters, overall. Do we know if Goode is more "clutch" than Mack is?

I think the game was lost when Rice was allowed, yet again, to take a key shot as the time was running out. And then Mack's biffed layup off his offensive rebound.

I'm not a fan of it as an overall offensive strategy, but not sure why we didn't dump it down to Malik in that situation...it had been working well on that late game push.

Call a timeout. Dump the ball down to Malik. Tell him to be wary of double teams. Put Mack and Luke on the floor as kick out options. Its not rocket science.

But...to be fair...that last play call was a pretty good one. I'll take Mack with that shot, in that situation...any day.

I probably would too…if he’d ever show the ability to actually make one.

MM’s progression from last season is disappointing.

2023-2024
ppg-12.2
fg%-39.5
3%-32.7
rpg-4.1

2024-2025
ppg-13.0
fg%-44.9
3%-32.3
rpg-5.6

3% down a smidge and all else up a smidge. I hoped his shooting would show good improvement but not the case.

Crap shot selection. He's not elite enough to overcome it.

Better off with the MM shot then with MR. With him there is no kick out option.

He's kicked out a little more lately. But its definitely not a strength of his. I was referrring to the play before the Mack 3 attempt though, that ended with Rice shooting another contested base line jumper with about 10% chance of success.

I don’t consider either Goode or MM to be pure shooters. But Goode might be a bit better than MM on the move or off the dribble.
MM has shown signs of improvement on offense. If I were an incoming coach I would want to keep him and accept the challenge of really developing his game….to include defense. But I would not guarantee him starting or playing time.

Without actually knowing how any of them are wired...I'd say I'd be fine with keeping any of them that I felt like were coachable, willing to change their games, willing to work, etc...

Whether the same amount or more NIL is available this spring for the new coach, any holdovers off the current squad ought to be in for a minimum 20% reduction based on individual and certainly team results. This team needs some new alpha dogs to set a tone, like the JMU kids did for Cig. Not sure any of the potential returnees have that. Or, at least haven’t shown it.
