It's remarkable that no one really has any clue at all about who the next coach might be. People would even be hard-pressed to guess. That's remarkable, I think. And IU isn't leaking at all. If even THEY know yet what they want to do. You'd think that Dolson would have a short list for sure, but who knows if they're still just doing due diligence on a bunch of people to come up with that short list. Probably a good thing they've got plenty of time to do so.
Mike Woodson has to be loving that the search is taking so much attention away from him. At least, he has to be loving that it's taking a fair bit of negative attention away from him.
Just based on my uninformed reading, IU is probably going to have to pony up a lot of money to right the ship: likely buying out a coach, paying that coach a lot of money (to woo anybody away, the number is probably $6m/year or higher unless they want to be frugal), and ensuring the ongoing availability of NIL and other resources. It still seems like Monopoly money, but the school has waited so long that I don't think that just finding the "right guy" is enough. They've also got to throw a ton of money at the problem.
It seems like IU really did lose some easier achieved opportunities by failing to act last season. At least we all got to to see a high profile life lesson in action.
I wonder if fans here would feel pretty decent if they were told that the coach would be selected from this group: Grant McCasland, TJ Otzelberger, Mick Cronin, Dusty May, Tommy Lloyd, and Pat Kelsey. I have no idea if any of them are plausible and I know very little about them other than their records, etc., but I could at least see a rationale for each of them. But, again, it wouldn't be a cheap endeavor.
