The real shame in the playoff format

Not a bad concept but the aarguing will continue and who wants to go to Detroit?

I would just seed the 12 and layout out with firt round games on campus. No automatic conf-based byes is the biggest change that has to happen.

There will never be more than four teams with realistic shot to win it so the others are just warm ups and argument starters.

Detroit as a neutral site would be better than an away game. Memphis or Nashville in TN would be preferable. Bet those bowl games would make a lot more $$$ as first round playoff bowls.

Other idea is work something out with the NFL to use the NFL stadium that is best located for both teams (for first round). So, Lucas Oil for the IU/ND game.

hardly any issues and much better than current setup.

If there are so many issues, then why not give at least 1? Probably because you can't.
Well, first of all, not all of the bowls are in any sort of agreement or arrangement to host whatever teams happen to be geographically nearby. The college football playoff is made up of a partnership of bowl games and TV agreements and those are what drive the bus. So it’s all a non-conversation until you recognize and accept that major detail.

There are probably at least five or six teams this year that could win the championship and the teams will get even closer together as transfers and NIL continue

I am not sure as much $$ is made as most of the NFL stadiums mostly line the owner's pockets on game days.

The Irsay family surely wants the game at LOS.

I bet any non-playoff bowl would jump at the opportunity to be a first round playoff bowl.

So not an issue.

Ok, what five or six?
Maybe it's only four, but many years you don't know which four. Several of the four has usually been beaten during the season by someone not even in the playoff.

If it's up to the committee it's whoever was strong the previous years and had good recruiting classes.

An eight team playoff with zero byes would have been plenty. But this way they can make more money.

The bowl system with a 'mythical' national champion was fine too. Got so many great matchups and rivalry games. The games that sucked were when bowls had 'tie ins' and one tie in had a down year, and we'd get screwed with a shitty pre-ordained rose bowl or other bowl, instead of letting them bid for two great teams.

"But, but, we didn't see the mythical one versus two play head to head!" Ooh, what a big problem.

In a twelve team playoff, the last four spots will be a shouting match

And which of the major bowl games are you kicking out when there aren’t two geographically nearby schools to play in their game?

You have to have pre-determined sites if you’re doing neutral site games. You can’t just flip a switch the day the bracket comes out and be ready to host a game 12 days later based on which teams make it and who their geographic partner/opponent ends up being.

you can have pre-determined sites. Then divy out those sites to the matchups that make the most sense for location. I never said just randomly put a bowl in a city that didn't already host bowls.

You're just making up issues.

Well, that’s not what you said. You said once our game was announced it could have been played at any one of three bowl locations. Logistically that’s not working.

Regardless, the feedback about having home games on campus has probably been the most agreed upon positive of the whole thing so far. You’ll see more home games before you see less.

Who's agreed to it? Blatantly unfair.

Pretty much anyone who has attended any of the four home games so far. Unless they have hard feelings or sour grapes.

They have to fix the automatic byes for the conference champions, but once they do that, then you play for a higher seed for home-field advantage, just like you do in every other playoff format, including, to some degree, the men’s basketball tournament, where the higher seeds tend to be placed closer to their campus. And the very top seeds get that sort of treatment at least to 90% of the time.

All 3 bowl locations I mentioned were already bowls. And I never said when bowl locations would be determined

And having to tweak an idea isn't the same as an idea being impossible, like you said

Agreed by who? Lmao

I strongly disagree. If you're trying to determine a national champion you absolutely cannot allow anyone to play in their own stadium. Like I said blatantly unfair. And if the men’s tournament allows teams to play on their home court, that should be done away with as well.

Well, it’s going to continue for now. And I expect there will be more home games (or the same) rather than fewer.

NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL and every major college sport except MBB plays for a true home field advantage in the postseason

The pros are a completely different kettle of fish and have a finite number of teams.

Byes are fine with me. Pre-selected byes to keep weaker conferences happy sucks, for sure. Auto-bids are more than generous enough.

I was OK with playing at ND. Felt they were underseeded and we got a tough matchup, but we were not screwed by not getting a home game. Our seed was reasonable.

We shit the bed on offense for the fifth half in a row. But, shit happens.

I'll tell you who agreed to it. Fans of ND OSU Texas and PSU. They think it's more than fair. If the shoe was on the other foot, not so much.

Again. Sour grapes. Neutrals have talked about how exciting it has been and the energy level.

There’s a finite number of teams in every playoff/league. I’m not sure what word you intended to use there.
