There are so many simple fixes we ignore as a society. Build a wall. Put Britney into a conservatorship. Half the stories on the internet would disappear
I was wondering when this would pop up here.
It's simple. They voted for it. Most Americans, especially those in red states, want nothing to do with illegals and want them deported ASAP. Let the people who voted for this nonsense handle it.I was wondering when this would pop up here.
It seems that most conservatives I know in real life and on other message boards are gleefully posting this as a 'spike the football, I told you so' moment.
I don't know much about Eric Adams, but I'm assuming he's not advocating for building a wall on our southern border and keeping all immigrants out of the country. My guess is that there is much more to that meeting and they discussed bolstering proper infrastructure, and how better to help the masses coming to the US.
The US - New York specifically - has been welcoming immigrants for as long at they both have existed. It's literally part of the fabric of this country. Either we're a great country with opportunity for all or we're not.
And that's not to dismiss the real problems New York is facing right now. They do need to do something different - I'm just not sure 'something different' is barricading the borders.
Do you know any illegals? Serious question. It's simple. They voted for it. Most Americans, especially those in red states, want nothing to do with illegals and want them deported ASAP. Let the people who voted for this nonsense handle it.
Sorry. You vote for it you own it.Do you know any illegals? Serious question.
Awful easy to say the above if you don't. And I understand that. Your point is not invalid. But there is a human component to this which shouldn't be ignored.
That didn't answer my question. But you know that.
Define "know". I don't talk to anyone who can't speak English. That didn't answer my question. But you know that.
Do you know any illegal aliens?
Are you under the impression that illegals don't speak English?Define "know". I don't talk to anyone who can't speak English.
I agree the human element should never be ignored, what about how it effects American workers? I wouldn't be against illegal immigration if we didn't have legal ways to go about becoming a citizen. Working in a bank for all my adult life I've seen many here on work visa's accumulate money on behalf of immigrants (most were illegal) and wire the money out as soon as they got it. It is always a great thing to see money being earned here and sent/spent elsewhere.Do you know any illegals? Serious question.

This is Democratic party governance to a T. Long on ideas, short on execution. The blocking and tackling of governance are beneath them. Why would you proclaim yourself a sanctuary city and not put in place infrastructure to support being one? Who does that?
We saw the same thing in Maui, I see it every day in Chicago.
You know what the non-sexy parts of governance are? Removing brush from beneath power lines, trash pick up, cutting the grass on public land, cleaning up piss and shit, making sure public transportation is on time, safe, and relatively clean.
But those are the small things that enhance quality of life in a day to day.
But alas, they’ll continue to bleat “sanctuary city”, “climate change”, “social justice reform”. Meanwhile ignoring the every day duties that they’ve been put there to do.
These people are clowns.
Thought Mexico was paying for this wall? It's simple. They voted for it. Most Americans, especially those in red states, want nothing to do with illegals and want them deported ASAP. Let the people who voted for this nonsense handle it.
I purposely attached mike solana tweet to try and avoid it. I guess I should have just spiked the football 😁 If I am being honest, I am glad it's starting to affect more affluent people and black people. However, it's not to spike the football. I grew up in a small town that went from 95% white to having it's high school a majority hispanic. It happened in less than 25 years. Unfortunately, when people complain about it, the conversation tends to quickly turn to "racist white people", rather than acknowledging the issues illegal immigration does cause to working class Americans. People that can, like myself, move to Hamilton county and gain all the benefits of immigration without any (or very little) of the downside. I don't have to worry about them taking my job, overburdening my kids school system, or decreasing the value of my home. Working class and poor Americans have to deal with most of the issues.I was wondering when this would pop up here.

I am for immigration. I just think it should be legal immigration or at least more controlled than it is currently. I would also like to see more conversation about the negative outcomes for poorer people and try to implement polices to alleviate some of those issues. The less burden it is on working and poor people, the more accepting people will be to immigration in my opinion. Hopefully, New York and other sanctuary cities shift the conversation. I don't have the answers or a strong opinion on the wall. My starting point would be to defer to the states on the border and border patrol officers.I don't know much about Eric Adams, but I'm assuming he's not advocating for building a wall on our southern border and keeping all immigrants out of the country. NAFTA did more damage. And just good old American greed.what about how it effects American workers?
How'd you feel when the best parts of our manufacturing base went overseas. I guess, at least, they are earning the money there and spending it there now. Which is better. It is always a great thing to see money being earned here and sent/spent elsewhere.
Ok. Now I am spiking the football.I was wondering when this would pop up here.

Half the world would come here tomorrow if we let them in. Millions obviously already are illegally. You're saying let everyone in? The US us full.NAFTA did more damage. And just good old American greed.
And automation.
But yes, we should blame people coming here to pick beans, scrub toilets, and maybe frame houses.

Those are flip responses. To a point. As JDB pointed out, the vast, vast, vast majority of immigrants are hard working, socially conservative folks who just want to earn a living in a place that offers opportunity. The crime statistics for illegals are way behind those of the American poor. If that's the case we're deporting the wrong people.
That's what the inn told Mary and Joseph. The US us full.
What's interesting is that I'm also from a relatively small town - Springfield, Ohio - and depending on who you talk to, there has been an influx of between 8,000 - 12,000 Haitian refugees that have settled in and around the area.I grew up in a small town that went from 95% white to having it's high school a majority hispanic. No they wouldn't. Half of Central America? Maybe.Half the world would come here tomorrow if we let them in. Millions obviously already are illegally. You're saying let everyone in? The US us full.

Well, you just won. Want to know what you just won? That's what the inn told Mary and Joseph.
Why do you hate Jesus?
Your undying respect, I hope.Well, you just won. Want to know what you just won?
I’ve always wondered: What is dying respect? Three, maybe four, seconds of respect?Your undying respect, I hope.
I believe early NYC imigration was controlled and done legally.I was wondering when this would pop up here.

You gotta ask;
Ah come on Bulk, ya got one more I’m sure of it! I gots to tell ya whatcha won!
If Biden would Fire Harris and appoint Adams Border Czar he would win in 2024.
I respect you as a person, but you didn’t say anything here. This is completely an I Told You So moment. Did you think Texas and Arizona are just supposed to “deal with it” alone?I was wondering when this would pop up here.

It honestly doesn’t matter. The majority are probably great people coming in with the best of intentions. But there are also those coming in that are wreaking havoc and we are lost if we don’t figure it out.Do you know any illegals? Serious question.

What the **** did you think would happen? Honestly? At what point do liberals wake the **** up and realize how the real world works? A kid is dead because of insane - completely insane - policies. What's interesting is that I'm also from a relatively small town - Springfield, Ohio - and depending on who you talk to, there has been an influx of between 8,000 - 12,000 Haitian refugees that have settled in and around the area.
I've heard a lot of anecdotal stories about the relatively difficult time the refugees are having in assimilating into the community while also putting an unsustainable burden on the town's infrastructure to support them. My uncle said that traffic safety is a real concern. For some reason, many of the Haitians have large passenger vans and don't really know how to safely drive them on the roads (excessive speeding in town, going the wrong way down one way streets, etc). There are also reports of some refugees living 20 or more to a house and not really keeping up with the lawns or general upkeep of the house. It's rare that any of them speak English, so they largely keep to themselves.
All that said, things came to a head on the first day of school. An immigrant here illegally hit a school bus, flipping it over injuring several kids and killing one.
It's a sad situation generally, but that accident has exaserbated the situation immeasurably.
I don't know the way to the best outcome here, but it can't be close America down.
You sound like a Trumpster. What the **** did you think would happen? Honestly? At what point do liberals wake the **** up and realize how the real world works? A kid is dead because of insane - completely insane - policies.
