I know.Wtf ? You can’t complain about the ladies leaving when you don’t even take them to Johnnie’s Beef, or at least Portillos…

Best Italian Beef sandwich according to me and my wife is actually available at Manley’s Irish pub at 10th and Shadeland in Indy.My best friend lives in Chicago. Edibles biz. Cortez and I have a very close friend who lives on the same block. I stayed an entire summer in Chicago. I have been to Chicago ten thousand times. Done properly a French dip might be my favorite food. I have never had an Italian beef in Chicago and of any food in the world it is number one on my list to try
The Portillos chocolate cake shake is the bomb. You instantly gain 10 pounds. Still worth it.Wtf ? You can’t complain about the ladies leaving when you don’t even take them to Johnnie’s Beef, or at least Portillos…

Bari has my favorite in the city. If you go with someone else get the beef and the Italian and split it. They have a counter you can belly up to and devour it.I know.

Manley’s has very yummy spicy giardiniera, and you can get a side of tater tots there. They blanket it in provolone. Place is or was owned by aunt/uncle of ex-Colts tight end Jack Doyle. As you might expect very Catholic crowd. Whole menu pretty yummy for bar grub.I will have to try it. I love Portillo's but that is through a mathematic formula known as "an average Italian beef is better than any food not found in a Mexican restaurant." I need to open a Mexican beef sandwich restaurant.
Fat Dan's has been in Bloomington several years and fits that same formula.
I hate driving the Toll Road.I’m glad there are still people who recognize the obvious.
This is like Hoosiers who complained about a Spanish company leasing the Indiana Toll Road - on the basis that they’re Spanish.
As if they were going to dig the road up and move it to i.
Okay forgive my stupidity. Is an Italian beef sandwich any different from a French dip?Completely unrealistic. Italian beef is one of the greatest foods, what moron would stop serving that in favor of "fine dining"? Does he hate flavor?
I hate driving the Toll Road.
After Spanish leased it a complete nightmare--NW IN no toll booth attendants, mile-long lines because no one can figure how to pay or what to pay, some exits completely dark.
Try Portage gate on a weekend.
"If it ain't broke don't fix it."

I feel like someone should have told them Trump is lying piece of shit. Oh, wait…'Gut punch': Trump upsets local union leaders by opposing U.S. Steel-Nippon deal
On Monday night, President-elect Donald Trump reiterated his opposition to the proposed $14.9 billion sale of U.S. Steel to Japan’s Nippon Steel Co., vowing to block the deal when he takes office. Some steelworkers in Pittsburgh’s Mon Valley who support the deal — and Trump — weren’t happy. “I amtriblive.com
Prior to a rally in Pittsburgh area shortly before the election... The local leader met with Trump and encouraged him not to mention scuttling the deal at the rally as a lot of the workers in attendance had come around to supporting it. Trump didn't mention it during that rally, but 'gut-punched' them with his post election December statement.
That sounds amazing. I’m going to go to Portillos or whatever it is this summer. In the meantime get your chili pot ready. Thundersnow tomorrow. I went to the grocery store last night and the line looked like Covid timesYes, spices. And if you are smart you will get it wet, ie, pre-dipped. It is best when the bread has lost all structural integrity.
No Pepe’s but they do have some New Haven apizza and they have John’s of bleeker. Wonder if it’d be shitty reheatedYes, I have. I’m a foodie…so it’s a must watch.
And it is also a good reminder why I don’t want to come within a mile of having anything to do with owning (much less running) a business in food-and-beverage service.
Very high risk, limited returns even if you are successful, and excruciatingly high workload. No thank you.

Oh I know about the region lol. Chicago might be the best city in America for three months of the year. The rest passI said at the women's game today that it was a great crowd given how many people were standing in line for loaves of milk and gallons of bread. The stores are crazy.
On general principle I don't like Chicago, too many region rats in my crew. But between Italian beef, the Chicago dog, and Lou Malnati's, it does have really good food.
WTF.Okay forgive my stupidity. Is an Italian beef sandwich any different from a French dip?
FWIW I disagree on the predipping. There's a point where they can get too sloppy.I know
French dip. Bread roast beef. Au jus. So spices are the difference Marv says to make it Italian beefFWIW I disagree on the predipping. There's a point where they can get too sloppy.
Important thing is they aren't wimpy. They need to have some serious heat.
Not just spices IMO a proper Italian beef also has a heavy dose of gardiniera.French dip. Bread roast beef. Au jus. So spices are the difference Marv says to make it Italian beef
As for pre dipping I love both. Sopping wet where the bread is falling apart and firmer.
This is the best one in town here. French dip. Pretty wet. Incredible fried mushrooms with lemons too
Great menu tooFWIW I disagree on the predipping. There's a point where they can get too sloppy.

Uh oh. I had to look that up. I don’t like that. I’d get it plain. Would that incur a NO ITALIAN BEEF FOR YOUNot just spices IMO a proper Italian beef also has a heavy dose of gardiniera.
Maybe you better stay in the shallow end and keep enjoying your French Dip.Uh oh. I had to look that up. I don’t like that. I’d get it plain. Would that incur a NO ITALIAN BEEF FOR YOU
That is a good point. So what we have to do is figure out how we as Americans can compete on the world stage. We do need to make things again in this country.Every car assembled in America contains parts manufactured in other countries. There are no true American made cars left.
When I moved back to Indiana a few months ago around the Fort I found out they have a Portillos and Skyline Chili there. Yes!The Portillos chocolate cake shake is the bomb. You instantly gain 10 pounds. Still worth it.
We’ll serve roast beef sandwiches at the annual. No giordinio bullshitMaybe you better stay in the shallow end and keep enjoying your French Dip.
Are we still talking about sandwiches?FWIW I disagree on the predipping. There's a point where they can get too sloppy.
Soaking. 🤣Are we still talking about sandwiches?
I don't think those words mean what you think they do.There's a point where they can get too sloppy.
I’d be wary of trying this, honestly. I’d do it - don’t get me wrong. No Pepe’s but they do have some New Haven apizza and they have John’s of bleeker. Wonder if it’d be shitty reheated

But I wouldn’t want my first and only impression of a world class icon of pizza to be at all diminished from the genuine article.
What they say regarding investment sounds wonderful. What usually happens…Assets change hands. Control is shifted. Nothing productive is accomplished. Been trending that way for 20+yearsHuh? Nippon was going to put like $3B into improvements of the existing aged USS facilities in Gary and PA. Something that seems unlikely now. I'm guessing both those facilities will be gone a decade from now.
Never had that one but i will try it next time I go to visit buddies in Chicago. Will likely be next summer.Best Italian Beef sandwich according to me and my wife is actually available at Manley’s Irish pub at 10th and Shadeland in Indy
