The ACC is looking to move away from divisions

It looks like an interesting way to do it. The B1G would probably make OSU, PSU and UM our 3

3-5-5 scheduling
Our three should be Illinois, Northwestern, and p u...

As you noted MISO1..., the Big Ten front office would probably make it what you said or something close (maybe Michigan State rather than P$U)...

No matter how they decide to do it expect the worst when it comes to any kind of a fair deal....

I do think rivalry games would be preserved as one of the three. And when setting the three. I could see them wanting to try a tiered approach (hard, med, easier). Would think IU would be something like Purdue (a lock), Mich St (Brass spittoon) and Michigan (nearby state, tier 1). I could live with Thai se three yearly then mix the rest every year.

the ACC never really wanted Cuse, Pitt, or L'ville, to begin with.

they took them on as a hedge against Delany trying to take out the ACC as a major conference, thus a viable competitor for network contracts. (while Delany, the SEC, and PAC, were also trying to take out the B12 for the same reason).

and the ACC has been unhappy about what expanding, and being forced into divisions, also against their will, has done to traditional rivalries ever since.

until recently, no one had done more to totally "f" up college sports than Jim Delany.

and he totally "f"d up the B10 in the process. (no offense to Neb, UMd, and RU, which are all great schools with great athletics, but just don't belong in the B10).. and overly large conferences don't work.

and before anyone claims Delany is responsible for any of the payout increases during his tenure, he isn't responsible for any of it.

that said, those currently in charge of college sports are giving Delany serious competition in the totally "f"ing up college sports dept.

The 3 things they'd look at:

Rivalries
TV presence
positioning for a spot in the NC

Rvalries ties up some of the teams. Michigan needs OSU and Michigan State, MSU needs PSU and Michigan, OSU needs Michigan and ?? (PSU?). And they'd probably want to keep things regional (Iowa with Minny and Neb, and both of them with the other 2, with Wisky thrown in somewhere).

TV presence would mean trying to have that schedule that has a marquee BT game every weekend.

Michigan MSU
PSU OSU
Michigan PSU
OSU Michigan
OSU MSU
Michigan PSU

with 3 more with teams from the west. And if Wisky would ever get out of bridesmaid status....

Yep, somebody is gonna be put into the grinder to make some patsy sausage.

I'm bored today, so I'll try...

Illinois - Indiana, Northwestern, Purdue
Indiana - Purdue, Illinois, Michigan State
Iowa - Nebraska, Minnesota, Wisconsin
Maryland - Rutgers, Penn State, Northwestern
Michigan - Ohio State, Michigan State, Minnesota
Michigan State - Michigan, Indiana, Penn State
Minnesota - Iowa, Michigan, Wisconsin
Nebraska - Iowa, Purdue, Northwestern
Northwestern - Illinois, Maryland, Nebraska
Ohio State - Michigan, Penn State, Rutgers
Penn State - Ohio State, Maryland, Michigan State
Purdue - Indiana, Illinois, Nebraska
Rutgers - Maryland, Ohio State, Wisconsin
Wisconsin - Iowa, Minnesota, Rutgers

Adam Rittenberg from ESPN was on a station in Columbus and was talking about this topic and suggested that it would happen sooner than later. He thought it would be 4 teams that would stay on permanently and rotate the other 5. He said he had heard that OSU’s 4 would be Michigan, MSU, Penn St and Indiana. He didn’t get into other schools or anything else he had heard. They had a few calls after and OSU fans weren’t thrilled about the 4. Most wanted Wisconsin instead of Indiana but were happy that it wasn’t Rutgers or Maryland.

Save that! I'd be interested to see how close to center it is if it happens.

Did they say how many league games they would play 8 or 9?

4-5-4 and rotating the team they play back to back years?

These would be an ideal 4
Purdue
Illinois
Michigan State
Northwestern

However, more likely they would stick us with at least one of these: OSU, UM, Penn St.

The problem with this system is it sets up playing a team outside your group two years in a row. With the 3-5-5 system teams outside your group show up on your schedule every other year.

I approve this message.

Looks like a pretty solid list to me. There will always be a couple "rivalries" that need to be forced, IE IU vs Maryland. The big Three OSU/PSU/Mich all get 1 gimme with Maryland/Rutgers.

The big four in the "west" all play each other, Iowa, Wis, Minn, Neb.
