The 2.3 Stars vs the 4.1 Stars

We ate at Eric Gordon’s across from the stadium before the Michigan game.
We struck up a conversation with Kenneth Grant’s parents, really nice people.
He’s from Merrilville and was a 3* coming out of high school.
He is projected as a mid first round defensive tackle in the upcoming draft.
His dad told me he wasn’t recruited by Notre Dame and he said Ryan Day is one strange guy which came as no surprise to me.
On his official visit there Day told him he could go to Michigan and start or he could come to Ohio State and be on the second team.
I told him that seems like strange recruiting strategy.
That’s when he said well he is one strange guy.
Not really relevant to the subject I guess.
Bringing up the star system made me think of our conversation.
Very nice people,I wished him and his son well as we left…but I added ‘after today’😂

Shhhhhh......don't tell anyone this! Sites like this will become obsolete if they realize their star rankings don't mean squat!

But like Cignetti has said, he never pays attention to any of the rankings. Why should he, when he knows more than they do? And it's just another example of potential vs. production, especially at the college level. He went and got guys with college production, and these 4/5 star HS guys are all potential on the college level.

Great story, thanks for posting that. I remembered what Coach Cig said early, stars means nothing to him in his evaluations. It is production on the field. I don't read the Indy Star so I never taken any article that is mentioned serious. Yet it does remind me what Chris Peterson did at Boise State while coaching there. He made 3 star players better football players and they could compete with anyone.

His son played for Jim Harbaugh and he said Ryan Day struck him as one strange guy?!!

Lots on interesting stuff in the Star analysis.

6 OSU starters were the #1 recruit in the nation at their position. Every single OSU starter was a top 50 recruit. 4 of IU's are.

Personally, I like the fight in the dogs that have no fancy pedigree.

Good point and I thought about that when he said that.I bet family functions would be interesting when you put Jim Harbaugh and Tom Crean in the same room.
