Thanks Republicans...

We’ve done this before. Lockdowns and Covid insanity became a left virtue signal. Businesses. Schools. Etc. The free cheese was part of the left’s desire to have lasting benefits and welfare state expansion

I think you're wrong to put all the blame on the left for covid lockdowns, but that's okay.

You've got a stellar record of being right so I'll tap out now. 😂

Edit: I'd also like to add that some good did come from those child tax credits. Look at what the child poverty rate was for 2021 and then what it went back to once those went away. Maybe he was onto something.

I don’t place ALL blame on Dems just most. And the worst of it is they used Covid 1) as a pretense for welfare expansion and 2) to virtue signal fcking kids and businesses over. The Biden/Harris squad politics of the last admin was simply gross. Gross people.

As for poverty that is a lesson no one paid attention to. During all that free cheese the poverty rate fell to the lowest in decades. I’d be up for gutting these welfare programs and trying means tested limited basic income

I agree Biden and co went WAY to far in their messaging. I just don't see it as much on dems as you do.

I'm up for trying out new things, but I wouldn't want to roll something out like that the way the current administration is making changes.

During the Biden administration it was argued that, yes, the free cheese was excessive and it exacerbated inflation, but it also saved businesses, reduced unemployment, and the cost was a level of inflation less than most of the world suffered through, in light of the post-COVID supply chain issues. Trumpswabs like Murt responded by saying "who gives a flying F*CK about the rest of the world, that's dumb"

Now, under the Trump administration, Trumpswabs like Murt say that the rest of the world has it way worse than us on inflation, that there are still post-COVID supply chain problems. It's not his fault! He will fix it!

No self awareness at all.
be great if that was the intent. instead it was a pretense to expand welfare. i also said i suspect elevated prices will stick with us and be worse than staving off any potential recession. and they have indeed stuck with us. i've also said i suspect trump's tariffs are poorly timed and will only make things worse.

not put on your mask and get back on the sidewalk dummy. don't forget your men for harris/walz t shirt

There was free cheese on both sides. The amount of business COVID stimulus money was crazy, with very few guardrails. In a lot of cases the most important thing was to get your paperwork in first before the well went dry.

I know a local trucking guy in my town. Hard-line conservative with 25 trucks or so. He fed at the government trough to the tune of 6 figures despite doing just fine in terms of business impact.

Yeah I know a bunch of people who did too. I should have but didn’t. We got killed by covid

I don’t disagree, but there are 160 million jobs in the U.S. They should be able to cut several 100k government jobs. Getting rates, tax cuts, and stability (assuming they change their tune) will help create jobs as well.

They have to refinance 9-10 trillion this year and 2 trillion of that is in April (Yellen left them a shit sandwich). I think you will see Trump’s tariff talk switch gears late this month or at some point in April. If markets fall too much they’ll end up collecting less tax revenue and they won’t accomplish much from their lower rates.

Assuming they avoid a bad recession, in 6 months if the 10 year is in the 3s, 30 year in the 5s, FED is cutting, inflation back to 2%, and add in tax cuts, consumer confidence should swing back.
Yellen stuck Bessent with $4.6 trillion of maturing debt in the next 6 months

You might be surprised McM, but I agree with some of your response. Biden over corrected for Trump 1st term f_ck ups which led to some of the inflation. And yes, the border situation was horrible. So, the Democrats deserved to get their asses kicked. Our country will hopefully survive Trump's 2nd term and we'll elect someone like Shapiro who will need to dig the country out of this mess.

I worry about you McM. The next three years will be tough. Hard to find a job!
Like Shapiro a lot. When KH didn't pick him as VP she sent a strong message to me: not interested in playing to moderates. I ended up writing in a candidate. IF Shapiro could win the primary (which I think he has zero shot at), he would clean house in the general. But of course, on both sides all sorts of moderates are getting sidelined by the fringes of the parties.

TRump definitely had a better economy than Obama until Covid hit.
Trump was also given a better economy. All Trump had to do was not screw it up.

Even if Trump had a better economy, he was given a much bigger head start. If we are going to credit the president with responsibility for the economy, then it's more impressive to turn it around than to just keep it going. I guess Trump deserves credit for not crashing until covid.

This time around it appears Trump is trying his best to tank the economy.

Yes Biden walked into a shut down economy from covid. He was slow to reopen the economy and states started doing it on their own. Otherwise we may still be shut down. Then he took credit for people returning to work claiming that it was job creation. Pre covid Trump economy had higher economic growth lower inflation and low unemployment than Obama.

..Otherwise we may still be shut down..
Show your work on that bogus assumption.

Stuff started opening up when vaccines became available to help protect those who cared to not get the worst of the pandemic. No way in hell an objective person would think we may still be shut down sans the hero republican governors. That is funnier than anything on Comedy Central. If that was the case, what dem states were still on lock down in the last 4 years?

Outside of Trump and his attempts to hide/downplay covid for fear of hurting re-election, Republican politicians were just as much for shutdowns and protecting people as dems...until it became useful as a political tool to change their tune.

Yes saying that we may still be on lockdown is hyperbole. However lets remember democrats at first refusing the vaccine while Trump was in office. I also believe it is funny that you say Trump tried to downplay Covid. Was it not Democrats that complained when Trump tried to restrict travel? Was it not Democrats who were telling people to come on down to Chinatown that is nothing to fear? Trump put Pence in charge of the pandemic response. There was 15 days to stop the spread. Then it went to 30 days. Trump did everything that was asked of him by Fauci. You are right that it was Georgia that never really shut down but quickly re-opened. Then Florida and everyone got on them for opening too early. So I am not sure how much Trump actually downplayed. He did try to push re-opening before Easter.

Trump was lambasting Brian Kemp for reopening what he thought was “too soon“.

His initial reaction to Covid was disastrous. Firing squad worthy, impeachable at the very least.

By summer he settled into “leave it to the states” which is the correct approach.

How was initial response bad. Immediately restricted travel and was called xenophobic. Immediately brought in Fauci. Put Pence in charge. They started the 15 Day to slow the spread that went to 30. He di do what he should have done immediately and leave it in the hands of the states.

Alright so "downplaying" to prevent panic vs "downplaying" and not reacting and doing nothing are 2 different things. I believe it is your job as a leader to try to prevent panic.

Are you out of your mind?!!! Our Republican ag now a U.S. senator had to sue to get schools to open. The virtue signaling blue dumb shit Dems extended the lockdowns masks all that shit. It’s only been posted a thousand times you lying shill. Fing hickory. Garbage

When did dems refuse vaccines?

Trump tried to hide that there was a pandemic. Probably felt that it would hurt his re-election campaign given that he disbanded the White House pandemic response team in 2018 (will go down as one of the dumbest actions of any president)

When that failed, it was just something minor and then later claimed it would be gone by Easter.

masks and lockdowns and school closings and draconian bullshit became a woke virtue signal for hte left. that's simply fact

Indiana, where I live. You can give all the opinion pieces you want, but it wasn't just a dem problem, especially when it came to schools.

you're picking one. in missouri we had a red gov but blue counties shut down schools. so the state sued. i'm talking nationwide. are you really so daft that you think extended lockdowns and masks wasn't a left virtue signal? are you oblivious to the migration to the southeast and florida where states were open. did you not hear about all the ny businesses relocating to florida? calif businesses relocating to texas?

as for schools "opinion?" citations are set forth therein. that's not opinion. jesus. stupid.
