Talent is showing in this game

Talent gap ? Wait until OSU in Columbus and you can bet OSU will be fired up after Cig's remark about OSU sucking
Can't do anything about that. We have heart, they have a bunch of dumb ass clowns who get paid and don't go to class. to hell with osu.

I don’t like seeing the team almost choke away a game like that in the second half, but from a glass half full perspective, I think this kind of takes the pressure off. No one is probably going to expect much from us going forward after that performance, including OSU.
It’s a new era when IU fans don’t feel great after beating Michigan. What is it, only the second time in the last 30 meetings or something like that. I’m going to savor 10-0 for the next two weeks, our undefeated Indiana Hoosiers. Think how pissed the Boilers must be after watching their 45-0 shutout followed by our Michigan win to continue our record start unblemished.

Exactly, even the negative Nancy interpretation of this game is that IU is a bubble playoff team rather than a lock. Anyone that is upset with that can eat rocks

I just had to educate a Purdue Alum that, no we did not "buy" our team, they are just a bunch of transfer players who followed their coach with a chip on their shoulder and the desire to prove they can play with the big boys. And remind them that after they fire their shitty coach maybe the same thing will happen to them next year.

Let’s face it,even before this game we have little chance at OSU,that’s why this game is so important.
Just like Nebraska was supposed to get curb stomped in Columbus? 😂

I can’t quite explain what happened today other than perhaps we lost focus. It happens. I’m just not ready to say that this team never had a chance to hang with OSU, especially since I’ve seen this team dominate teams too much to believe that. Again, Nebraska perhaps should’ve beaten OSU and the week before they were curb stomped by IU. Explain that?

You’re making me out to be much more negative than I was. Was just being honest. I’m not upset by any stretch. I also still think we have a decent shot to upset OSU in two weeks.

Oh, I just happened to pick your post to spout off what I wanted to say. I could have used others, those more disappointed because we didn’t throttle them like we had most other teams. It appeared we might if we had gotten that third TD instead of just a field goal. That might have busted the game wide open, spiritually. Thank God UM could only muster 3 points after intercepting at the 9 yd line. That made a huge difference later.

This was a great win-- it is still a very, very good Michigan defense. 5-6 NFL guys on the DL, 4 for sure in the starting 4, and the two DT are going in the first 2 rounds. Evans injured, but we did okay in the first half even against man when Price was in the game--pretty big loss because he is a critical player in the slot from us. We didn't finish business in the first half, and it should have been at least an extra 7 points. Stephens will have 2 weeks to continue to gel with the OL--it will be better.

WIth Evans out, you lose a bit of continitunity and try to overhelp him a bit --again, dude hasn't played much all year and all of sudden he's forced to play against two of the top five tackles in college football. Case in point was the one sack in the second half where the proteciton, at least in execution, called for Lawton to block a stud defensive end. Not surprisingly, it didn't work out well. Ellison getting dinged up also impacted our pass blocking because he is phenonmenal asset in pass pro. He just didn't look right when he came back into the game. You get a couple of uncharacteristic drops from Sarrat, a goofy pass interference that is NEVER called because it was just a rub route ran really well. Cig was rightfully pissed about it at half time.

It is important to not lose sight of the fact that Rourke was dominant in the first half--something like 14-18 and almost 200 yards passing. QB under duress who isn't a dual threat guy is going to look a lot worse if he has no time to throw and receivers drop balls that they catch 99% of the time. I think people underestimate how good a QB Rourke is. He might be the best QB in Indiana history--at least as far as dropback passers are concerned.

Perfect storm in the second half--Rourke had no time to throw, we couldn't run the ball, and Michigan tightened up in the back 7. Lots to expose their if we protect Rourke better. This game, however, is the perfect learning experience for us and the staff--it will be similar to Ohio State next week and the staff will adjust to that potentiality.

Bottom line, this was a great win IMO, and not enough people are talking about the absolute dominance of our DL against Michigan. Yes, Warren is a bad QB, but Michigan ran the ball for 2.7 yards per carry without factoring in sacks and 2.0 yards per carry with sacks. Shockingly impressive numbers. When people complain about beating Michigan, a team we haven't been in a non-covid year since 1987, it must be because we are having a great year. I'm sure Cig told the guys in the lockerroom that it was a great win, and we won playing like dog doo doo for 1/2 the game.

One other thing--Jamari Sharpe came in and once again looked good. In this day and age when guys are jumping into the portal to preserve a red shirt year--Sharpe did not. He stayed, kept working and when called upon he has performed really, really well (Ponds' targeting and Johnson's targeting). Kudos to him and buying in.

MI had the top ranked DT group in the Big 10 at the start of the season. They deserve credit for playing tough in the 2nd half. OSU’s DL did stuff Penn State when it counted. The talent gap to worry about is OSU WRs v. IU DBs.

10-0, all but ensures IU is in the CFB playoffs
No it doesn't. The field is littered with one and two loss teams with a stronger SOS...in some cases...much stronger. IU cannot get blown out by OSU and expect to be a lock. There's a reason why IU is both unbeaten and sitting at #8. Reality is what it is. IU needs to beat OSU or keep it respectable as a road loss.

I thought it was exactly the kind of game we needed. We stunk offensively but don’t forget.,,….we manhandled them defensively. Michigan had 96 yards total in the first half. They had 206 for the game.
Watching it live, they put Rourke under duress and blitzed the hell out of him.
I’m normally not one to blame officials but on the long ball where Price got it down to about the 5 and was called for offensive pass interference only to be hit in the head from the side by a Michigan DB and lay in the turf. No f@&$ing targeting? Really.
Same old shit talking Michigan fans today inside the stadium. They now head back north with a loss on their Trail of Tears to the local Walmart for discount Michigan gear.

What happens now with Miami FL?

That isn't a great Michigan team, but it's still a team with alot of 4/5 star talent and pride. End of the day, IU found a way to get the W and move to 10-0. Whoda Thunkit. Proud of em.
2 likely first round picks on the UM DL, and probably a couple others for them on that D. Many will play on Sunday. They single-handedly kept UM in the game.

Luckily the IU D stood tall the whole game. O needs to step it up!!

We stomped Nebraska 56-7 and the following weekend OSU barely squeaked by the Huskers at Columbus.

OSU is literally a play or two from being on the verge of playoff elimination so I wouldn’t be spiking the ball just yet.

This was the main discussion leading up - why is UM struggling with all of the NFL talent? Two things, QB and Coaching.

People must not watch a lot of college football. There are games throughout the week where the overwhelming favorite squeaks by the opponent. Hell, Miami FL is ranked ahead of us and lost to Georgia Tech. BYU won by 1 point against a 4-5 Utah team and were down 21-10 at halftime. Miami and BYU are 3 and 4 in the CFP brackeT as of this morning. The ACC and Big 12 are watered down conferences, particularly after the last realignment wit Texas and Oklahoma. And now they are saying Deion has a shot at the CFP? With 2 losses? C’mon.

You are CRAZY. IU is in the playoffs. Miami losing ensures the ACC is now a one bid league. There is not a single world where an 11-1 B10 team is left out of the playoff.

Nice meme. Perhaps only the most rabid FANatics drove down from Ann Arbor expecting to dominate IU just because they were Michigan.

CBS replay was a shoulder pad, if I remember correctly.

IU stuffed UM’s NFL prospect RBs just about all game, and kept UM out of the end zone when it counted. They passed the eye test today. The didn’t let UM gain momentum, with complementary football. I expect many IU defenders to place highly on the All BiG teams. 3rd and 4th preseason team projections have been exceeded by performance now.

Exactly, it’s actually sports in general. Very few teams go through a season without a blemish. When was the last undefeated college basketball team? I can’t remember, maybe the 70’s? 😉

It has a lot to do with styles and matchups. Michigan’s players, for the most part, were more talented than ours, one on one. It showed up in certain line and secondary positions. This allowed them to cover our wide-outs eliminating the passing game, and rush Roarke, which in turn allowed them to bunch up the line to stop any running game.

Other than the first half, our D and special teams won the game.

And, I think we match up better with OSU.
