Any word on where the student/Greek tailgating location will be this year? Last year, they were moved so far south in the grass lots that they were a non-presence and it felt like we were tailgating at Arlington National.

Without the college part of this equation, we're just watching minor league football IMO. Family friendly parking is available East, West, and North of the stadium, but leave the South for those that want to enjoy the festivities so-to-speak. Fingers crossed.

Seems athletic dept and/or university makes a lot of those headscratching decisions. Has killed student presence/atmosphere at tailgating but at same time it has done nothing to increase going to game or support. Not progress in my opinion.

I believe the more organized or paid/reserved block party tailgating may occur just south of 17th and the other tailgating may be further south of that.

If those that tailgate actually go to the game, GREAT! Allow them to be closer to the stadium AND IU athletics earns more money.

If it’s students just looking to party/drink and not go to the game....does it truly matter if they are 200 feet further South of 17th?

I do NOT know if that is the plan - but I think it’s likely.

It’s not 200 feet from 17th. It’s the difference from placing students in the middle vs pushing them to outskirts -literally. Far cry from 5-7 years ago. I understand that got wild but the evolution has not been a good one. The paid tailgating you reference is completely different. I have tailgated there with friends for years and not sure if it will displace us or not yet. If it does, well I guess you can figure out sentiment.

I have no issue with anyone having a party and tailgating near or around the stadium. Students, alums, faculty, joe and Jane fan, whomever. Within reasonable control - but that’s just me.

And when in school, I definitely participated. Would I have cared if moved 60 yards?

Help me understand the issue of location of the place you choose to tailgate. I think I do understand you’d like to be close to the stadium - I presume IU Admin does want to try to calm down the location immediately south of 17th - for “optics” closest to the stadium.

I believe they will make $ while also creating what likely would be a calmer group of tailgaters immediately south of 17th.

If space is available say 200 feet further south, in the same field, to allow students or whomever to party outside of the block party concepts, does that work?

Maybe I’m misunderstanding your point but it’s not a matter of 200 feet for students. They have been broken up, regulated and moved to back of tailgating. Not saying good or bad but certainly hasn’t helped student attendance or participation. As for the paid tailgating, if it’s anything like the corporate efforts last couple years, it left unused prime space that could have been filled.

I guess I don't understand the issue. Is something preventing them from tailgating? Are they in the arboretum or something? I don't think people realize how good we have it with our tailgate setup.

I thought it was very entertaining having the big old student party right there by 17th street. Made me miss being a student....I would pass by there and be like "ah, the good old days!"
