Sure we should go hire

You can post the same thing 10 more times and you still don’t know if he would come to IU.
Something about the environment at IU must change before we can just crook our finger and have folks leap into our arms. The brand today is not what it was. It will take some doing by an administration committed to understanding it and doing so. That commitment appears to be missing. Its not the coach. Perhaps its the unearned confidence that lets some think that IU is the destination job of any coach we want. It probably once was, though it was untested for 26 years, but no more.

Beard is a Texas guy with a prior 10 years at TTU. TTU is his destination job. Learn about that program. It the closest thing to RMK's IU teams as can be found. You'll be seeing it for a while. TTU knows he wouldn't come here - or go anywhere else, for that matter. They layed $27.45 million American to know it.

Did he turn IU down or something? Where’s that link?

IU could offer him double that.

IU is not offering anybody $9mil/yr to coach college basketball nor do they need too.

Beard is not leaving the state of Texas for a variety of reasons, namely because of his daughters.

All that money TTU threw at Beard is for insurance purposes for when Texas (Beard’s Alma Mater) inevitably buys him out once Shaka is canned.

They could, but they won't. IU is not interested in being a powerhouse basketball program. See the last 20 years or so and look at the hiring history.

You would have flipped your shit if IU hired Beard in the manner in which Texas Tech did. Beard coached one year at a low-major prior to bouncing around several JUCO and high school stops in-between coaching in a now defunct semi-pro basketball league. Nothing of Beard’s pedigree prior to Texas Tech have any indication that he would be one of the best coaches in the game. You people are incredulous.

The only reason he wouldn't end up at IU is because we have a terrible administration who isn't fully committed to winning. It has nothing to do with TT being a destination job. IU could offer him 9 or 10 million a year and you're clueless if you think Beard wouldn't consider coming to IU then. I know you are a TT fan, but nobody cares about them.

You think IU is going to offer someone $9/mil a year just so you jackasses can run them out of town after 2 years and shell out another $40-50mil in buyout money? You people are nuts.

Is it raining in Indiana? Who let the cows out to graze? My response was about IU paying a coach, not necessarily Beard. You are something else also coming to an IU board.

Keep thinking you have a relevant program. Would be kind of funny to watch another premier coach turn down your once proud program.

So why didn’t we get Donovan then, dumbass? If we’d offer all this cash to make Beard one of the top paid coaches we wouldn’t have for Donovan?
Just how big a dumbass are you?
Obviously we wouldn’t because we didn’t.

But if we did we could get him.

You’re falling further and further behind by the day.

WTF did the word relevant come in? We have 5 dusty banners and you have a problem hanging on a message board of a program that hasn't been relevant for 25 years.

Beard was an assistant under RMK at TTU. He was not an unknown low major/JUCO coach to them.

So if we wouldn’t, why are you still rooting for Indiana - since they don’t have your viewpoint?

But keep trying, missy. You bring great entertainment to the board.

That’s not my point. You guys act like you’re so above hiring a proven mid-major coach like Archie, who had high praise from just about every national pun, you would have balked at the idea of hiring someone like Beard after 1 year at UALR. Hell you would have balked at a bunch of coaches like Izzo, Ryan, Bennett, Wright etc because none of them were proven either. But those guys got sure as hell more time to build their program than you guys have given Archie.

"You guys" probably doesn't include me. I don't want Archie fired. I liked the hire and I think he deserves more time. But I do agree with the opinion that IU will never hire a "big name." Not under this administration. They don't want a coach who is bigger than the University.

Yeah but the Iu job is pretty cush too...$3.5 million a year w little to no expectations!
Right the IU gig is better low expectations! Beard will have to recruit some 5 stars out of Texas consistently, to maintain this status that he now has.

The Longhorns, Aggies and TCU will have something to say about this.
UT will answer real soon and Buzz Williams will follow.

This.

What an amazing and fulfilling life you must lead. Worst fanbase in America. Please ban this a$$hole.

Wait? Purdue has the worst fan base in America? You're right, we're the program whose run off 5 coaches in 20 years. You're right, we're the program with delusional and unrealistic expectations. Ya'll missed the tournament more times than you made it the last 10 years. Don't let facts hurt your feelings kid.

Like Marshall in WSU, he is not going to turn down a nice contract. I think he'll leave for Austin in a heartbeat if/when that opportunity presents itself. That is his destination location. The RMK style will go with Beard when he moves on. If Tech is his destination location they wouldn't have had to give him this contract that targets the Longhorns with a double the buyout clause for switching to a school within the conference.

As long as we continue to beat you I don’t care what you call us. I’ll send you a postcard from the tournament next year.
How about you just hand us the postcard in person. I'm pretty confident that IU will make the tournament next year.

He didn't say you had the worse fan base, he said you had no fan base.
Indy radio doesn't talk Purdue because they don't even touch the meter.
IU even out numbers the Colts, which is shocking
