stat of the day: Steve Alford at Iowa 2005-06

Perhaps surprising to some, Alford was 25-9 in the 05-06 season at Iowa despite losing in the first round of the NCAA tourney. Iowa was a veteran team that year with Greg Bruner, Adam Haluska, and Jeff Horner. They were not an "elite" group of athletes but they played well together and shot the ball well.

Two stats related to that season:

1.) 25 wins ties the 2nd most in a season in school history (30 wins with Marble and Armstrong in '87)
2.) Alford was 8-3 against top 25 teams that season… Archie Miller is 7-8 against top 25 teams in his entire Dayton career.

#1 ranked Defense in the country as well! Throw it out though, because none of his good teams count.
