Reviewing the staffs back to the 2016 staff that Coach Allen inherited from Coach Wilson may give some insight into general staff quality. From the 2016 group only Patton, Joseph, and DeBoard appear to be out of the game. DeBoard had a massive stroke after Les Miles hired him as OC at Kansas in ‘21 and Greg Frey has been QC at South Alabama. Shawn Watson who was QC in ‘16 and interim OC for the bowl and then took Taysir Mack to Pitt with him is now HC at Wofford.
Current holdovers from ‘16 are Shelby, and Teegardin (GA in‘16). Other long term staff going into ‘22 were Jones & Hiller. All the staff that left before last season found jobs and their new teams went to bowls. As did prior departers Hart, Johns, Inge, Hagen, and of course DeBoer & Womack.
Different folks will draw different conclusion from these facts. Reviewing the staff listings thru these years did provide some laughs at the quality of the information presented.
