On reflecting on yesterday's game, it occurs to me that among the many things participating in sports is good for is learning to live with loss and injustice. Of course that field goal should have been called good - virtually everyone agrees on that, including most neutral observers and some of Duke's own players (this is derived for what people have written on various blog posts). But life is like that. Our IU basketball team in '75 would have won a national championship if Scott My hadn't broken his arm. But these things happen, and we all have to adjust to loss and reach acceptance. The team's members may in the end be better people for having lived through this defeat than if they had won. Who knows?
