Sounds like Rourke will play

The question is can He throw with the same velocity and get the same spin on the ball that He could before the injury? And can He do it without wearing a glove on his throwing hand. The bigger problem might be can He take snaps under Center effectively with the finger in that condition?

With this offense he may not need to take any snaps under center. His great decision making on the RPO's is what sets him apart. Think we will see another heavy dose of running the ball this week.

I will assume he can do all those things since Cig is starting him. But very valid questions. What happens if he gets his first hit in the game or will he be instructed never to run? It did not look that bad on the replay although I saw his thumb hit the opponents hand.

I was hoping they'd give Rourke plenty of healing time rather than risk it. Expected Tayven. If they can coach up QBs as much as has been bragged about... and seems like it's true.

But I assume they know what they are doing.

With this offense, we just need a consistent game manager. In either case, we need to remember he threw a 40 to 50 yard dime on a play AFTER the injury had happened. So for all intents and purposes, at his worst condition since the injury he was still playing fine. He has only improved since then so I'm honestly not worried.

Only concern I'd have is reinjury. Staff wouldn't play him if he couldn't throw it well.

And on the reinjury concern, I feel like this staff also wouldn't play him if there was any extra risk or concern in that area either.

It would play into MSU's favor to say anything other than what Cig said. He's hopeful he can play. It looks optimistic. MSU d coordinator essentially has to make a gameplan for two different QBs. Doubles his work and increases mental strain on MSU defensive players in coming days. I don't think Cig will take a risk he doesn't need to take come gameday

The thumbs are least impacted by taking a snap. The velocity and grip is much more of a concern. I do suspect he will wear a glove.

My guess is that they put a slightly extended splint on the nail side and turn him loose... As long as he doesn't try to catch the snap using his thumb tip (straight on) he's good to go...

Handling the snap will be the key... That and handling the pain... M$U will definitely be making an extra effort to whack it while theoretically going for the ball... He can expect to see a couple of late hits (with no calls) just due to their trying to get him out of the game...

He's probably begging to go... This game is part of his NFL resume' and his TEAM leadership cache... The NFL loves Leadership, availability and toughness and so do his Teammates...

If he gets some help from the Special Teams and the Defense we'll light them up in spite of the Refs..., and his injuries...

If the OL can keep him relatively clean I expect that he'll play well enough in the passing game to open up the run game and We Shall Crush Them...

If he is taking any snaps under center, his thumb will take a great impact.
No...it won't. The palms take most of the impact during a snap. If the thumb was broken,it would be painful, but from my understanding the damage was on the nail side, furthest away from the ball. It will be minimal. I broke 2 fingers from an early snap,I'm not guessing here.

Edit: Also...I would think that he would be testing that in practice, and with all the talk of him probably playing,I'm guessing it hasn't been an issue to this point.

Several who seem to be in the know posted here, that it was a hairline crack and required two screws to repair?

I know I don't know, but if true I'd use the term broken.

I'm not sure i would go with a "hairline crack" as a break...but to each his own. My point still stands. They aren't going to expect him to play, without testing his ability to take a snap.

Agreed and suspect Jackson plays most if not all versus MSU.
