Will have several stories to come, but here are a few key updates:

-- Peyton Ramsey is the returning starter at quarterback, and it's his job to lose. That said, Allen said he believes in competition, and the best QB will play.

-- Health-wise, no major injuries to report. Allen said that nobody is scheduled to miss fall camp. A small group is dealing with minor nicks and bruises, but he didn't go into detail on that. Indiana has had a physical therapist as part of its medical staff for a year now, something Allen cited as a difference-making in aiding getting players healthy.

-- The Terry Tallen Football Complex is slated to open in late July, right in time for fall camp which begins Aug. 2.

-- A few summer enrollees Allen mentioned being excited about bringing into the fold, especially the weight room: tight end Gary Cooper, running back Ivory Winters, offensive lineman Tim Weaver, linebacker Kervens Bonhomme, defensive tackle Sio Nofoagatoto'a, defensive tackle CJ Person, defensive end Bau Robbins, linebacker Cam Williams, cornerbacks Tiawan Mullen and Josh Sanguinetti. Interestingly, Allen said Cooper might be the most athletic tight end IU has on its roster.

-- In talking with David Ballou and Matt Rhea (strength and conditioning coaches), Alen said he was told the wide receivers were the strongest performers in the weight room this spring. The linebackers earned that same distinction for the defense.

-- IU's offensive players are genuinely excited about Kalen DeBoer's offense. Allen meets with each player one-on-one during the offseason, and the most consistent thing he's heard is how they are going to maximize the talent they have on the roster.

-- What does Allen like best about DeBoer and how he fits? Allen said DeBoer "can coach every position on offense" and is a "machine" when it comes to diagramming plays, going over schemes, etc. in meetings with quarterbacks and other players.

-- When it comes to positions he feels best about heading into the summer, Allen cited the secondary and linebackers, wide receivers, running backs, tight ends and quarterbacks. He still wants to get deeper along the offensive line and defensive line and see more progress made there.

-- Allen feels like he's finally got the recruiting staff he wants in place, and that's likely why IU is coming off signing its highest-rated recruiting class in the Rivals era. One big difference has been creating a Director of On-Campus Recruiting position, something the program didn't initially have when he arrived.

-- Allen views this year's defensive line class as one that can set the foundation for years to come.

-- The strength program has become a huge recruiting tool for both grad transfers and high school prospects. Allen said both types of prospects have been "blown away" by what IU's doing.

-- Now that he's delegated the majority of the defensive coordinator duties to Kane Wommack, Allen believes he can take a more proactive approach to his position. In the past, he said it was more reactive just because of everything had to juggle.
