Shit performance from US tonight. Just lost. Terrible goaltending

Gio Reyna didn’t play a lick. His old man and crazy mom must be apoplectic.
“Maga soccer is so boring. We can’t score against the Panama Canal. Thank god Brazil is about to play Colombia next”

We have anyone in the pipeline besides Turner? We’ve got to do better. Usually we can count on it being a strength but it’s going to suck if he’s out starting keeper for the WC.

Don’t know but historically that’s a decent position for us

I know you love your St Louis guys, and my kid played against josh Sargent, but he is way too slow. No threat at all
Tim ream is another one. I actually don’t to be honest. I preferred the east coast kids. Brian Benedict. Henry Gutierrez. Tab Ramos. Etc. Stl and Indiana are very vanilla and unappealing in their play.

Oh boy, WTF is going on? I passed watching again to watch the tourney. Is Poch just giving players a chance to see who is worthy? Or do we legit just suck? Missing Robinson and Pepi hurts but man seems we’re underperforming.

My oldest watched the game and texted me afterwards:

"not sure ponch is the guy-jesse Marsch got a red card. Trade coaches

Mark McKenzie was terrible. so was Vickers. Luna was great. McKennie isn't good enough. Adams ok but he at least defends. Christian was not good. Agy the only threat at forward we have. Weah's touch is like a rubber ball on concrete. Reyna came in as sub--he was way better 2 years ago."

Played against Claudio in college and weah’s dad in men’s league. Just getting older and older with these names.

Didn’t pinch have one run at Tottenham and basically nothing everywhere else?

53-38-70 for Espanyol (32.9% winning percentage)
23-18-19 for Southampton (38.3%
159-62-72 for Tottenham (54.27)
55-15-14 for PSG (65.48)
26-11-14 for chelsea (50.98)

I could probably make the argument that his time at Southampton was a spectacular success. Tottenham was a close second. You could probably make a good argument that his time a Chelsea was probably a success given how dysfunctional that club has been.

PSG would have to be considered a failure.

I think it is hard for a guy like Ponch to adjust to american soccer. We simply do not have the tactical awareness and ball skills. That being said, playing Pullic as a 10 when he is probably best served as a selfish winger, would be better. My kid said during the panama game that Pullisic at the 10 was taking space from Sargent and just allowing too many defenders over such a small area.

Better than I thought. Sargent isn’t very technical. Agreed re ponch and American soccer. Maybe our golden gen are just a handful of great individuals with little chemistry

You seem to have a better sense from a historical point of view. Do you think our past WC teams had players that didn’t play in the top European league because American soccer wasn’t considered good enough? If that’s the case, when we look at each WC team what players would have been good enough to play in 1st divison leagues but never got the chance? I guess my hypothesis is maybe there’s a current bias that we should be better predominantly because we have more players at the highest level. But in truth maybe we’ e always had them and they didn’t get the same opportunities. This would also support your point that we have some great players That just have no chemistry.

I remember growing up there was a soccer magazine that I subscribed too. For the life of me I can’t recall the name, but it focused on US soccer. Back then we couldn’t qualify for the WC but it wasn’t because we weren’t trying. I think those teams had a greater urgency to win with less talent but more heart.

Sorry reminiscing about the past without enough coffee.

I know for a fact there were fewer opportunities for field players bc there was a stigma against American players in the 80s. Sommer in Indy was probably the first keeper. Then we sent Lalas over and he was a big donkey. Brian McBride went over. Kind of donkey too. But we had very technical players. Mostly in the acc. Brian Benedict at duke. Henry guitterez and tab ramos at state to name a few. But then there was no chance. The only pro league here was usl and it wasn’t good. I played for two usl teams and got paid peanuts. Almost literally peanuts. Couple hundred bucks a game

Tab Ramos was a stud. That being said, it was like putting Maradona on Stoke City 1983

I’m a little confused by your post. So you think we had equal talent but less opportunity? Or do you think we now have better top end talent as witnessed by their success in the major leagues? Or if you look at just the average player on the USMNT they are better now or on previous teams?

Mostly better now with some exceptions. But there were barely any opportunities then. Now 12 year olds are going over
