Soccer

Just got home, waiting for the halftime replays. Not sure I like the day light savings time starts. I prefer the games well before the wife comes home.
Just saw the highlights.

Yamal. Best player in the world.

Talk amongst yourselves.

In some ways, the random backstory makes it even more extraordinary. It's not like Yamal was the child of a teammate or of another La Liga soccer player (who one might reasonably expect to turn out to be a good soccer player). No, Yamal was just a random kid.

Exactly. Unreal

If I had a shit ton of money I’d create a sports channel where every game had announcers that could curse. It would make the play by play and analysis that more entertaining. Especially in soccer. I want to here the Brits curse.

It was a long day at the office and I missed all of the UEFA matches and just had to catch up. HO LEE SHEET! Yamal is ridiculous. Created so many chances on offense... that pass to Rapinha, the goal... a few he missed. His hustle on the one ball before it went out - that offense was running Benefica ragged the first half. So many chances. Lewandowski has to do better.

Rapinha is in such good form, it's crazy. Pedri continues to play phenomenally in the middle of the pitch.

Then I see the PSG vs. Liverpool. What did I say - Dembele was the key. Got an early goal... should have had a few more chances, but his teammates chose to make the wrong play and not give the man the ball. Almost sealed it late extra time. Nasty kick in shootout.

With Liverpool out who do you like now?

I’m pulling for Barcelona, but I worry about Inter Milan. They have the defense to pull the upset. Real Madrid on the top of bracket is my guess. Would love a Barca vs RM final with Yamal taking home the MVP and Ballon ‘d Or (sp)

On that note. The champions league crew is incredible. Shaq and Barkley crew incredible. But there’s nothing I love more than the unfiltered noises that come out of Ray Hudson whenever a shitty ball is played. Just pure disgust 🤣

Goal in the first minute? Who’s controlled the game?
Another 30 now. Typical. Real with the lion’s share of possession. Atleti more than content absorbing pressure. Mourinho was a genius at same but no one is better at it or more comfortable with it than the man in black

Why can’t the rules be changed to 30 minutes of sudden death then PK’s if necessary? Seems dumb to play out the full 30 if someone scores. What am I missing? I think teams would be less conservative and more exciting.

That’s an argument. Used to be away goal. So 1-0 atleti would have sent them through at 2-2 aggregate

I like it the way it is for aggregate. I just don’t like any game of consequence to have the full 30 if a single goal could end it. Just don’t see the logic. Yesterday the teams were tired, conservative and didn’t want to make any mistakes. PK’s are exciting but I think they should be reserved if sudden death goes 30. I say score a goal and you walk off!

I don’t like that suggestion either. going straight to PK’s is lame and would reduce the amount of scoring effort towards the end of the 90 just to get to PK’s. I’m sticking with sudden death.
