Leagues cup teams announced. Stl not participating. Sucks. That means Messi will never come to this shit hole. 15 years and I never missed a single game. Not one. I really wanted a pic of him with my minion. Big bucket list

Go see him in another city. Fun trip.

Going 7/26 with friends in Miami but I can’t take my minion. Too much. He’d be a mess. Here I can get him on the field.

You always hear in sports how the big markets dominate but nothing compares to mls how some cities get shit on

Any of you guys ever attend a World Cup game here in the US or abroad?

In 1994 my brother and I drove to Detroit to see the USA vs Switzerland. We tied that game. I’ll never forget the night before we were sitting in our room watching the OJ Simpson Bronco chase.

We also went down to either Orlando or Tampa to see the Netherlands vs Ireland. I think it was a quarter final game.

That’s awesome!!! What a memorable weekend.

Coolest thing I did was stand on the field with Real Madrid. They played one of those summer tour games and a connected buddy got us into their closed practice at Slu. It was surreal seeing all those guys a foot away on a field we had all played on a thousand times. I mean we were right on the field. Feet away. Shaking hands. President of real gave us a real pen out of his pocket. Then Ronaldo and kaka walked up on the bleachers to look at the city. Just interacting with the 20 or so of us randos there.

As an aside the summer of 09 real signed benzema, kaka, and Ronaldo. Insane to think about. All three won ballon dors

@Mark Milton I’ve gone down a hole speaking of transfers. This is insane. The lower tier teams in la liga have total payrolls congruent with middle of the road to lower level mls teams! And they have to play the biggest club in the world

Gunners!!!!!!!!!

No Rodri is such a difference. Pep just hasn't adjusted to not having a stud 6 on the field. And without the ball, they are just not good enough to regularly beat the good teams

I’m at the zoo. Definitely will watch it later. But you’re spot on. Pep’s system is perfection but it requires perfect pieces and a check book. He had that greatest gen ever and even a few before that could play like that at Barca. Deco etc. but boy without the ball you nailed it. Once these guys hit their 30s forget it. Just don’t have the legs. I’m really hoping Messi hangs it up this year. I don’t have the heart to watch him get chased down by a 20 yr old from Marshall University on a homegrown k 🤣

Such a fun match between RM and Man City today. Honestly thought City played well enough to win, but Vini is a problem.

It’s nuts to think that Brazil has Rodrygo, Vini and Raphiniha on the same squad and still probably won’t win it all.

We used to love the Penguin exhibit at the St. Louis zoo. That is where you are right? We lived near the Loop for 4 years across from Forest Park.

Big Fred fan. That little shit could wake up, start running, run 50 miles and then play a game.

Amazing engine. Brazilian mini flare. Just too small to be a 6 and not quite technical enough to be an 8.

Honestly, I think he should have been a LB.

that's the problem with american coaches. Never let the players have that creative freedom that europe and and american players are allowed to have. The clunky american touch prevails again!
My college buddies and I always joke that xavi and iniesta couldn’t have made a single ACC roster

So so true per usual MM. I’ll never forget in college we showed up to play at William and Mary. There the day before and my jaw dropped. The field was turf. We didn’t even know. I began tearing up.

We all went to the mall to buy flats. Get back on the bus and I shouted IM GOING TO PUT ON AN EXHIBITION LIKE YOU CONES HAVE NEVER SEEN IN YOUR LIFE!!!

Midwest. Played indoor constantly. So we get out to warmup and coach who was like the great santini comes running over screaming at me. You put your foot on top of the ball one time you’ll sit the entire game.

Ref blows the whistle. Forward kicks off straight back to me. I settle it under my foot. First touch of the game SUB!!!! SUB!!!! SUB YOU STUPID SONOFABITCH!!!

sat the entire game. I wanted to slow that game down to a crawl with that ball under my foot. But no. He wanted to play like a spazz. 1000 miles an hour

With all these ferners I do believe it’s improving tho w/ re to coaching

Not sure what it was like in STL, but in Indy indoor was a love/hate relationship. Sure as a kid it was fun to play inside during the dead of winter and especially at night. But realistically your games were against a bunch of goons with no skill, hammering you against the wall while their parents sat yelling and downing beers, and siblings were off playing laser tag or pinball. I saw more injuries in one night of indoor than during the course of an entire season.

Haha love it!!!! Ours was sooo good. Bc we had the steamers in the heyday so everyone grew up playing indoor and they’d keep it going. Misl was huge for a spell. Sold out arenas etc. then after it spiraled and the teams and interest dwindled.

I’ll never forget we got this massive influx of Bosnians. The one bosno was my buddy’s cousin. In my 20s the team was the storm or ambush or something. The coach was part of our crowd and so were the players so we’d play them. Anyway this bosno had played for red star and marseille but fled with family bc of the war. So we play the pro indoor team one night and beat them 7-6. He got 6 goals. And between every shift he smoked on the bench.

Coach of the pro team comes over and asks me if I think he would play for them. I’ll never forget it I laughed so hard.

Coach comes over and introduces himself and says how would you like to play for the Storm?

When is practice?

Every weekday. 2-4.

The Bosno looked at the coach and goes. “I work at Bread Company” and walked away 🤣🤣

Breadco was a better gig than pro indoor

But no indoor was massive here. The Mitre Tournament!! Fans couldn’t even fit into the bldg. I have a mitre tournament trophy that I’ve saved through 30 moves and multiple exes breaking shit

He got into a big fight with Chris Albright after break. He even wrote to the owner and the owner didn’t back him!
What’s weird is that until yesterday everyone thought he was going back to Argentina. But yes, it did not end well for him. There were also other rumors supposedly behind the move. I am glad very little played out much in public and his legacy here will largely be preserved.

Most importantly, even though they also lost Barreal, FCC looks like a better team. They will also have Miazga and Hagglund back. They have to be one of the favorites for supporter’s shield and more.

I’m very excited to watch Stl City just as kind of a marker. The team will essentially be a bundesliga 2 side with all guys around their prime. I don’t have the foggiest idea how that will translate/compare to mls

My middle kid is just starting travel soccer and notice quite a difference in coaching perspectives. Some coaches are trying to push the kids to dribble into space and learn to beat their defender 1-on-1 to create opportunities, whereas others seem to have that old school mentality of pass it when someone covers you up and then go reposition in space.

Will be interesting to see how things unfold in the next 10 years.

My best advice, as both my kids played in the Academy system and one just finished up playing in college this fall, and the other has one more year left, don't go to the best club early--go to the BEST TRAINER!!! The best trainer is one that: (1) encourages and rewards skill; (2) encourages players to take guys on; (3) encourages players to play on their own; and (4) encourages creativity.

If you see a coach who starts practice with INTENSE RONDO, stay and watch. If you see a coach making his team condition after practice--RUN AWAY. Conditioning should be done through a fast paced practice where movement is constant. RONDO AND SMALL SIDED GAMES MAKE MAGIC!!!!

Just my two cents. I may not have baby arm holding an apple dangling from my waist like @mcmurtry66, but I seen some stuff 😉
