Jealous. Rivers up here still partially locked up and lakes have 10-20” ice. Gonna be a while. Thinking of mounting a trolling motor to my yak. Still debating pros/cons.
is it a pedal drive? Those are terrific vs traditional paddle. I watch a guy who kayak fishes mostly on the NC coast near Wilmington, but he hits the Keys for a few weeks each year. He uses a pedal drive with pedal assist. Sort of like the yak version of an ebike I guess, but he seems to love it. Checkout EliasVFishing on youtube if you want to learn about saltwater yak fishing!

nope didn't get pedal drive. now wish I did. My shoulders can't handle 6 hrs of paddeling in the wind or upstream. I have a Vibe Sea Ghost 110, all decked out with electronics, DIY battery, etc. But it's heavy as hell and getting difficult to get up and down off my SUV and too big to load inside. Might need a trailer.

as for the cold and ice fishing- same here. Once I hit 40 yrs old, the cold started stinging, and it gets worse every year. Will likely land in SW FL in next 18 months. Then I'll switch to hunting backwater /mangrove areas for snook, reds, baby tarpon...whatever I can find. Probably fly up north every year or two and re-visit old stomping grounds.

I saw a guy catch a mantis shrimp and pulled it all the way to his N**tsack. damn thing hit his foot so hard it broke through his shoe and went straight to the bone. Note to self.

That's a much more interesting retirement hobby for me than chasing a little white ball. I'd like to get a small bay boat. Something I can take in backwater and a couple miles offshore in calm seas. Another great channel if you like that: Bama Saltwater Fishing. I've learned a ton from both of them. How old are you?

in my heart, I'll always be in my 20s.. :) but my knees back and shoulders carry 57 yrs of abuse.

I was a very good golfer for many yrs (actually broke 80 twice) but yes, I get much more satisfaction from fishing remote areas. Too many people on the course over the weekend. Pay $100+ to sit there and wait for the duffers in front of me to get the hell off the green...for 5 straight hours. Pass.

Beard would be at top of my list but don't really care if it is him or someone else. I'd also take Pitino if he wanted the job. So maybe him but he is probably happy to finish up in NYC. Now we find out Beard drinks beer and it is immoral. All that is so shocking. Have we gone back 100 years in time or something? If he screws up then he will be gone quickly if hired. He'd probably leave the program in better shape than what he takes over if something did happen. I doubt any coach hire that fails would kill the program anymore than it is down now or has been since Archie took over.

Reminds me of the line from Shawshank redemption. "Jesus, when you say it like that..."

Just one coach on that list. And he's slimey. I wonder if Sampson has been rehabilitated?

"According to the police affidavit in support of Beard's arrest, Trew initially placed an emergency call from their house and told responding officers Beard had strangled her from behind to the point where she couldn't breathe for several seconds, and bit her when an argument turned physical. The affidavit listed several visible signs of an altercation, including bite marks on her arm and abrasions on her face and leg.

According to the affidavit, Trew initially told police "he choked me, bit me, bruises all over my leg, throwing me around and going nuts."

A separate Austin police incident report notes that Beard told police Trew had struck at him and that he had tried to grab her wrists to stop her. When asked if any punches were landed, Beard told police, "I think she was trying to hit my private parts," according to the incident report."

I don't know the truth....but the "visible signs of an altercation" are attributed to her condition, not his. Make of it what you will......including second chances. IU has to make this decision.....Once its done, its done.

I think the climate is more positive this time around. We don't have the hard termination as we had with Crean and Miller. While IU made CMW an offer he couldn't refuse.....he did "step down" on his own. The transition should be less dramatic and more amicable under these circumstances. That can only help the new coach in the process...which helps IU.

Heard something like a mantis has the strongest "punch" of any animal/creature for it's size. I don't know how to recognize a mantis, but my general rule with anything is salt water in avoid it, unless I know it's safe.

well, I disagree with both extremes. Keep in mind IU hired Davis, Sampson, Crean, Archie, and Woodson. Obviously, winning is not as easy as it sounds. Plus Woodson is not bad when he has really talented players.
There are not a lot of really good coaches. Many coaches look good by simply managing talent well.
Really! It took Woodson an entire season to find what guys should play meaningful minutes and what ones to limit their minutes. He also still hasn’t learned not to play two bigs at the same time.

Actually kind of disagree with this.

Woody is a match up coach. NBA style crap. Some teams we match up better than others. It’s why teams like NW kill us.

No! No Drew please. His star has dimmed and would seem it would be him wanting to get out of his current situation than coaching IU. Plus … he’s a massive dork.
Talk about a mismatched couple. However you define "good fit," Drew and IU ain't it, imo. Yuck.

Consensus on Reddit is that there is not an active coaching search going on and the new coach has been locked up verbally since December. People that seem to be right a lot have said this.

Not one reputable source has provided any concrete information about who the legit candidates are so all we have is online chatter from random people who know nothing.

beating women.
So now it’s plural? Where’s the info that he “beat” even one woman?

“Chris and I are deeply saddened that we have brought negative attention upon our family, friends and the University of Texas, among others. As Chris’ fiancée and biggest supporter, I apologize for the role I played in this unfortunate event. I realize that my frustration, when breaking his glasses, initiated a physical struggle between Chris and myself,” Trew said. “Chris did not strangle me, and I told that to law enforcement that evening. Chris has stated that he was acting in self-defense, and I do not refute that. I do not believe Chris was trying to intentionally harm me in any way. It was never my intent to have him arrested or prosecuted. We appreciate everyone’s support and prayers during this difficult time.”
That was the fiancee's statement. No idea if she was being completely truthful but if so, then it's not quite as bad as it it seems.

On the other, if he has a drinking problem, then that is whole different issue - https://kkam.com/drunk-chris-beard-ruins-texas-tech-fans-christmas/

Anyway, it's still going to be an issue for Beard. Some recruits doors might close to him due to his past. Right or wrong, we may lose fans or donors with his hire.

I have to check FL laws when I get down there. Part of my kayak fishing plan down there includes me carrying a loaded 9mm. Just in case. I was watching a youtube clip last night of some 'kid' fishing canals and was wading ankle deep on the edge of it, and pointed out a 'gator slide' on the mud about 10 feet away. My nerves aren't ready for that. Worst thing I have deal with up north are the goddam skeeters and black flies.

Always good to believe anything that comes of UT site about what is going on at Baylor. Baylor was major thorn in their side in basketball. I'm sure they'd like to stir up some drama up I35 even if not in same conference now. That said, if Drew wants to be a candidate, they need to consider him.

Salt water is just a different animal. Freshwater, sure you could be reeling in a small fish and have a larger bass or musky/pike slam it, but in saltwater it might be a big amberjack or tuna and you're in for the fight of your life, or just reel in a head and a shark or cuda bit your fish in half. Definitely feels like survival of the fittest. Snorkeling/spearfishing/lobstering is a blast too. You won't forget it if you spear a hogfish or snapper and have a cuda or shark flash in and take it right off your spear!

If you're wanting to be prepared to deal with a Florida gator you better bring something more hefty than a 9mm.
