So we just gonna sit and play dumb with the Braun BS?

The protest was stupid because it was in support of a terrorist state slaughtering and raping Israelites. The Palestinians got less than they deserved in retaliation.

Students need to be in class or studying or something else productive. But, I'm guessing the protesters academic pursuits aren't really worth pursuing anyway.

Yarmulkas?
Doesn't really matter how. IF they were being threatened, those doing the threatening should be thrown out of IU.
Ummm I’ve never seen a single kids wearing a yarmulke in 7 years on campus. I’m sure they wore them to temple and at other holy times, but don’t wear them just walking around campus. But I agree about the threatening.

There's was/is some Jewish center directly across the street on 7th from where the encampments were. Any typical afternoon, there were (I assume) Jewish students at the center, standing/dancing out front, and usually blasting Zohan-like disco/dance music over the protesters. Quite a scene. :D

never said that but they have a right to protest.

Just because you don't like what they're protesting about doesn't mean they lose that ability.
They certainly have a right to protest but they don’t have a right to do anything they want.

Do you think they have a right to put up tents on IU property and live there? Do they have a right to harass Jewish students?

Yep the main one my girls went to is Hillel Center on 3rd Street. The Chabad House is on 7th Street. I think it was a little more conservative.

Normally to violate the rules, there must be a rule against something. IU claimed there was a rule against camping out passed following the anti-apartheid protests, and that was what was used to evict the modern day protesters.

It turned out that rule was never actually passed by UU, so IU had no policy against camping out. Now I thought the encampment silly, I just could not see how or why it would impact IU in such a way to force IU to give in. And it just wasn't something I supported it. But with no policy against it, yes, they had a right.

I have no problem that IU later passed a rule against camping out. But generally speaking I don't grant the state, or quasi state agencies, the power to make up rules or laws that do not exist.

Did the President of the University even need a written rule to evict the protesters?

If it was a private school then probably.

Not sure with iu being a public school.

But given that protesting and camping out in dunn meadow has been something going on for decades, it seems that the issue was more with what they were protesting about vs what they were doing

Of course as with the summer of love protests, anyone breaking a law should be addressed

Typically, you would need a reason to eject people from a public university. Dunn has been used often for that sort of protest, so evicting this group after letting others use it would leave IU open to lawsuits. A public facility has difficulty legally promoting one set of speech over another.

I knew several people who took part there at various times, and I told them I didn't agree with it which is why I wasn't appearing. But there is a two wrongs don't make a right point. Enforcing a rule that doesn't exist isn't "right".

As to the idea that they could use the football stadium for protesting, I am sure that is what the founders had in mind when they created the Bill of Rights. We have the freedom to assemble, the freedom to speak, so long as we do it somewhere hidden away from everyone else.

Do we think when the Jan 6 protests happened that there weren't tourists in DC disappointed they couldn't see some of the sites because protesters were there? Should they have moved them out to the Northwest Stadium?

I think there’s a difference in protesting in Dunn Meadow and going home at the end of the day and putting down tents and living there.

You make great points. You’re always calm and reasoned in your responses. This would be much better place if we all posted like you do.

Business school is , media school is, SPEA is, a music school is…..
IU leads the state in top 10 and top 20 graduate programs

IU has 17 programs in the top 10 and 25 in the top 20 nationally.

IU grads continue to do very very well in career progression.

This nonsense about IU slipping academically is just that...
