So we just gonna sit and play dumb with the Braun BS?

I know you guys are jealous that I have a lot of friends. I can introduce you to some if you like. Is his speech therapist at IU? I don’t think I know her, but I might

It was from 2003-2005/6. He did some other therapies at IU. She may be retired by now.

F*ck you!!! It's not bullshit. My kid is autistic and in case you didn't know, autistic people are straightforward and lie less than the general population. And so, he didn't make up some story about his day. He told me exactly what happened. And he takes the path through DM because it is the most efficient. Autistic people are kind of that way, so he goes that way because it is fast and he avoids the crowds at the busy time of the day.

Good for him. That said, an autistic person is going to be much more effected by changed circumstances that upend his routine. I would posit that is the reason he was so bothered by the protests rather than the conduct of the protesters themselves.

I was seriously disturbed when I couldn’t cut through Dunn Meadow during the Banana Olympics every year. Had to go a few steps out of my way to go through the Union instead.

Yeah, but autistic kids have routines, as you probably know. And disruption of that routine causes stress, especially when being yelled at by a crowd. But hey, he should just to put up with it, right? All his fault according to @UncleMark .

Did you read my post?

No accusations of fault, just acknowledging the reality of his condition. As you know as well. Should demonstrations be proscribed simply because they might cause distress to a young autistic? Do you expect him to be shielded from anything that disrupts his routine?

Braun specifically said that not enough alumni voted. 20,000 voted in the last election. I don't think Purdue lists vote totals, so it is hard to know if they have a hundred or a hundred thousand vote.

In 2023, the state sent $623 million to IU, while donations to IU were $339 million. It doesn't seem crazy to give them 3 of the 9 trustees. It seems to fit exactly with the amounts given.
I don't think I've ever voted in one. How could I? I don't know who the f*ck these people are.

No, Mark, I don't. I spent 23 f'ing years trying to help him with that. But I don’t expect the pay money to a university to allow others to cause him undue stress.

I guess you and I are just different. You are ok with people yelling at him trying to get to class. I am not. I am not in favor of ANYBODY being yelled out just for walking through a field. Even you.

You know what, Mark. Come talk to me after you have spent 23 years raising an autistic child. Don't tell me how an autistic person is affected. Stay in your lane and just drop it.

Fair enough. No offense was intended. All I was doing was acknowledging what you yourself posted:

Sure, but his being autistic is not the point. NOBODY should have to deal with that, autistic or not. What if I said we are Jewish? Or he has a big nose? Or wore an Israel shirt? NOBODY should have to deal with that. EVERYBODY deserves to walk freely.

Like I said and now ask: why can't IU have all protests held at the stadium parking lot?

Dude, you're the one who made his autism a point. Maybe chillax just a bit.

Kids park their cars in the lots when there aren’t games,

No. I didn't bring it up until TMP wanted to call me and/or him a liar. That pissed me off and so I added context for TMP, who is a pathetic ass.

After I said it, then tones changed. If my kid wasn't autistic, then he should "be inconvenienced", according to Mark or "walk a few for steps", according to zeke. But because he is autistic, well that changes everything. No, it doesn't. NOBODY should have to be inconvenienced because of protesters. Or yelled at.

I don't need to chill. I'm just fine, TY for caring.

I know. My kid did. But the entire lot is not full.

Oh, and I did read your 120 post. I take that as, because he's autistic, he shouldn't have to deal with that. But if he wasn't autistic, then he should be mocked like you did in the first post. So, it's ok to inconvenience and yell at certain people. Got it.

Actually, it doesn't change anything, but it does add context and helps explain his/your reactions. As far as protests, they're supposed to inconvenience people and have people yelling. It's the American Way.

If his autism is irrelevant, you shouldn't have brought it up.

Well that’s not what I intended and I also apologized, but if that’s the way you want to interpret it I can’t do much about it.

Maybe became there are a lot of parked cars there

Dunn Meadow isn't in a main thoroughfare and can be easily avoided by walking around or through the union it is also a common choice for many protests over the decades/centuries so it isn't like the choice of location is unexpected

And if not dealt with, we'd have encampments, and then libraries taken over and destroyed. Thank you Pam Whitten for stopping this and protecting IU property.

That was the start of this back and forth, right? Hickory posted stating IU (Whitten) handled it terrible. I said she did great and relayed my son's experience.

So, I am still back to this: I think she did a pretty good job by nipping these "protests" in the bud. Luckily we still have a library (or insert another significant building) unlike UW.

lol where is a post by hickory in this thread?

Why would the library be in danger? Are conservatives trying to ban more books?

Funny. Rapier whit .. you should go solo with that ... not
. But it was a cold night , we had just beaten Purdue at west Lafayette. It was a crowd that gathered at foster/mcnutt we went to teter/wright and gathered more, went through the fountain , proceeded to Dunn meadow. We were met by riot police. They forced us back , I'll bet 500 or so , and then they arrested and drug out the protesters some left under their own accord. Others were arrested and removed.
Do you play music when you tell this story? Very dramatic. Lol. F_cking loser.

Dunn Meadow had encampments when I was in school. Protesting the post 9/11 wars. They were there for what seemed like ever. At least a year, maybe longer.

I feel like there has been some type of protest many years. Maybe not this size, but seems like there have been a lot. I’d be willing to bet there were plenty of anti war protests there in the 60’s.

None of this is new.

Killing the grass was one thing...

But when they started trying to cultivate crops to be self-sustaining, Whitten had to put her foot down. 😄

They need to build a soccer stadium in Dunn Meadow anyway. Armstrong blows for soccer, as does any field with a track around it.
