Can you definitively say he beat his GF? You don't think there's any possibility that she initiated, stepping on his glasses and getting physical with him and he retaliated? Maybe drunk; maybe both drunk? That knowing the cops were coming, she grabbed her neck to make it appear she'd been strangled or bruised? I'm not saying she did, but I'm saying a big angry woman could force a physical confrontation where you would need to defend yourself and she might end up with bruises, scraps and marks. You're 100% certain that didn't happen and Beard was the sole abuser? I think there are only 2 people who can answer; maybe 3 if her daughter was there throughout... and wouldn't she have made it 2 vs 1 anyway?
I've read the police report as it's public record (the location of the bite marks, cuts, bruises, etc aren't consistent with self-infliction). I know that Texas is a no-mandatory arrest state in regards to domestic violence laws. I also know that nearly 40% of domestic violence charges ultimately get dropped or go unprosecuted for this exact reason. Sometime 1+1 does in fact equal 2.
Chris Beard got his second chance, his freedom. He's lucky he's not rotting in a jail cell right now. A second chance doesn't always equate to a $30-40 million job in a high position leadership role. He doesn't belong anywhere near this state.
Again, if the barometer for being hired is a non-conviction in a domestic violence case...you've failed as an institution. The fact that we're even talking about hiring Chris Beard is sickening.
I just hope Dolson and Whitten stay more middle ground in their decision making compared to the left coast thinking that’s been haunting IU basketball since Knight’s firing. If not, after the next hire we’ll probably be right back here again discussing who should be next.

Bennett is quite the opposite of Beard if he is who you say he is. Bennett didn't bail. He was there 15 years. Maybe after some time off he decides to return and deal with it. I doubt he'd come back to coaching if not fully committed. Maybe he was setting his asst. u to get a decent shot atthe job like what happened at wiscy.
Don't know why folks are even mentioning Tony Bennett. Guy just retired earlier this year, due to NIL. Supposedly previously told IU to GTH for firing his sister. So, there's not just 1 hurdle, but 2. IMO he may be less likely than Brad Stevens and I don't think BS is an option. I'd think Jay Wright is more likely if you want to throw spit balls against the wall.
It is a quick call to get a no because Wright, Bennett, and stevens are all available. I know about the firing of Bennett's sister but a lot is different now. Maybe still the same but calling them is no a waste of time.
I'd be surprised if Bennett gave us the time of day in any case. Grudges are weird, people hold them long after it makes any sense. I still avoid buying Shell gasoline over the way a station owner, likely now dead or retired, treated me in 1992.

You have gotten a bit reactive to what is a pretty reasonable discussion. Guessing there's more to your history surrounding this topic than you let on. There is to mine too. I dated a crazy woman for awhile who threatened to call the police and say I'd abused her, so I know first-hand, 1,000% that happens too.
On top of having a father who would beat the snot out of all of us: my Mom, sister and my 5-9 yo self. Sort of an equal opportunity abuser.

I live there and have for 17 years. Lived in Dallas for 25years. I don't think it much different except it has a lot of personality as a city when compared to Dallas or Houston. I only miss the Mavs and Rangers. What is different?
I believe after a season or two of getting used to the ranks, McCollum could produce Bo Ryan type W's at IU. He is my choice. He also wouldnt need the prima dona type top talent. 11 of his tyle guys mixed in with talented players like a Yogi Ferrell etc and he would be a machine.
I did some game film study on this guy.
He relies on 3s and individual 1v1 driving with good spacing. It's an interesting startegy- probably one a lot of kids would like. Also, statistically his Drake team is doing well defensively.
Like Cig, his guys followed him from the previous gig. His biggest wins this year are against Vanderbilt and Miami on a neutral floor without a lot of fans.
It's difficult to say if he could get the guys he would need to compete at the highest level. He might.
But if I had one complaint it is that his teams dribble too much and shoot too many guarded shots. I'd at least ask him to explain that if I was interviewing him.

I’m actually “cooling” on him…a little. It’s more a concern about him fitting at IU than anything basketball related. I think his style would translate well in the B10. And I suspect he’ll continues his winning ways when he steps up to the P4 level. Iowa might end up being a better fit for him. And I think we’ll all end up lamenting that in a few years if we don’t hit with our choice this spring.
I’ll probably keep mentioning him. And if he wins 30+ this year, wins the Valley, and a game or two in the NCAAs…Im sure he’ll be up for most P4 openings.
Fit and scheme are concerning. Small town Iowa boy who has coached at D2 NW Missouri St and 20 games at mid-major Drake. That’s a massive culture shift coming to Bloomington in front of a fan base in full desperation mode.
Most of his guys at Drake are former D2 kids on their last year of eligibility. And not that it’s a bad thing, but I just don’t see any of our current roster sticking around. Asking a guy to build a new roster from scratch who has never recruited high major talent or been around NIL just screams disaster. And while IU has the $$$ I just don’t see high dollar talent attracted to McCollum’s scheme.
I'd pass on Bennett: Archie ran his stuff, and that s*** doesn't work anymore. Dolson needs to make sure the new guy at least runs modern stuff, can recruit guards and shooters, and knows how to work the transfer portal/NIL.
I get the concerns. But I have had a couple people I trust who have watched him rave about him. Saying he’s the next Bo Ryan or John Beilein. Not exactly the same type of coach but on their level. If he’s really that good we’d be foolish not to make a hard push for him.

I'm just posting what those guys said I mean I would kick the tires on the best coaches most likely they will say no but Beard, May, Otzelberger, I if feel pretty good getting one of the 3. I do agree with Goodman we have to get a proven coach nothing against McCollum but he needs more seasoning.
What made Knight's offense good was his players were well prepared to execute it. His discipline maintained focus. The motion offense...any offense, if poorly run is not a good offense.
