Yeah....I’m thinking about flying down for that one. Can get a flight out on game day and get to Miami in plenty of time. I generally try to hit a non-conf road trip every year.
The most demoralizing trip ever was Bowling Green in 2014. My seats were in the BG student section. I quickly moved to the opposite stands. Wish I had saved my road trip for the following weekend to Mizzou.

The Mizzou game was great but its impact was pretty much negated the following weekend when we welcomed Maryland to the Big Ten by depositing a giant turd on the Memorial Stadium turf. That was a strange three game stretch - - an all too familiar inconsistency that hopefully will become a thing of the past.

Not liking that 2020 opener! (Thanks for posting the schedules).

Here’s what I don’t get:

IU scheduled a split with FIU: 2 games at their place and 2 at ours. So, last year was cancelled in B-town. That means we will end up with 1 game in B-town (2015) and 2 at their place (2016 and 2018). Do we get extra comp out of the deal for that?

Big programs (a la OSU) never, ever play a G5 opponent on the road. It doesn’t ever happen as I recall.
And, whenever a series is lined up, it’s never an even split for the programs that do. It’s always like 2-1 home and away or 3-1 home and away.

If you’re looking to go to the FIU game this year check out the logistics of staying in Fort Lauderdale. They’ve got their own airport. Same beautiful beaches and they have a new express train that runs between Fort Lauderdale and Miami called the bright line. It is $15 including snacks and a free cocktail and takes about half an hour. It is first class. I’m sure the hotel rooms are a lot cheaper

I don’t know what the business dynamics are but the negotiations probably start with “you know we are going to fill your stadium ....”

Last year’s game with FIU will be made up in Bloomington, but not until 2024. But I agree, we shouldn’t be scheduling 2-2 splits.

Perhaps the 2 road games at FIU are being used as a recruiting tool. Meaning IU getting more exposure in that state.

Outside of the exposure, is it allowed for IU to actually "host" a recruit down there, bringing him in with the team, being on the sideline, attending pregame meetings, etc.?

Yes, Johnsy already mentioned that. But the bigger question is why did we agree to two away games at a Conference USA school? Simply for the Florida exposure?

Not sure. Wasn’t it a replacement for the South Florida series?

Yep. If I remember correctly, we had an away/home two game series scheduled with USF in '15 and '16, but Glass bought out the contract because he wanted a seventh home game in '15. FIU then filled the void, but I'm not sure how/why it morphed into a four game series.

I'm not complaining, though (as long as we don't stumble down there), as Florida exposure is good for our program. We've already got a strong foothold in the Tampa Bay area, and maybe this will help with recruiting in southeast Florida.

Gotta win that game.

I honestly don't know the legal technicalities of today's rules. If I had to guess, I'd say IU cannot "host" away from home. Maybe someone like @Superstar84b who recently played, knows the ins and outs for the real answer. As someone else pointed out, it might be a game that replaced South Florida. But the strategy to keep it in Florida strongly suggests to me, it was done to get IU some viewing opportunities in a football hotbed area.

Looks like it's gonna be a pirate stream for me.
Since I have to use pirate streams every game, I'm curious to hear if you know of any that I don't use. I generally try to navigate through the popup betting/porn windows and take my chances ignoring the McAfee "Whoa!!!" warnings at FirstRowSports, and if that doesn't work I try to do the same at Feed2all.

Those two do it for me most of the time. I run Linux and use Firefox in a Private Window with the uBlock Origin add-on, so popups are kept to a minimum and I'm essentially immune to infection.

Thanks. I tried to download uBlock Origin but got a message that it's not compatible with Firefox Quantum. Anyway, I'll figure it out. Thanks again.

I run an old Firefox ESR as my browser. But a quick Google makes me think you should be able to use it in Quantum.

I'd also highly recommending enabling the 3rd Party blocker MVPS Hosts in uBlock. Otherwise the defaults have been fine for me.

My understanding is that a team must play at least two games in that season at a site to be able to provide tickets ago passes to a recruit. That means even neutural sites are out. Obviously a recepruit can pay his own way, attend the game and wave. I think waving is allowed.
