Kyle Schwarber is absolutely on fire. He went 5 for 7 in a double header yesterday with 2 HRs, a double and 5 RBI. Schwarber is hitting 308/.411/.571 with 8 HRs in 162 PAs at Daytona. His overall numbers this year in 282 PAs are 352/.442/.648 with 16 HRs.

He had fallen into a bit if a slump, with some scouts noting that he was dragging his back foot before swinging, which was screwing with his balance. He has since fixed this bad habit, and I do not think it is any coincidence that is right around the time he started mashing again. As of August 14th, his AA average was .242. Since that say he has raised his AA average over 60 points and hit 4-5 HRs.

Just hit another one...

Schwarber just hit a 2 run shot in the first inning of today's game. I believe he has now homered in five straight games.

He just did it again!

HR in games on Thursday, Friday, 1 on each game of the doubleheader yesterday and 2 today so far. Allegedly a couple of those were monster blasts (on top of the video board in dead center, over a light tower in RF).

He is leading the Florida State League in OPS at the moment.

Former Hoosiers ending strong debut seasons

Former Indiana All-Americans Kyle Schwarber and Sam Travis are doing to professional pitchers what they did to Big Ten foes, spray their pitches all over the yard and over the fence.

Julian Benbow of the Boston Globe wrote on Travis emerging as a power threat. In 19 games in the South Atlantic League Travis is slugging .453 with eight doubles and two home runs.

In the Florida State League, Schwarber is on fire. As Kelsie Heneghen writes Schwarber is heating up near end of season, the left-handed slugger has home runs in four consecutive games, now up to 16 in three levels of professional baseball this year. For the Daytona Cubs, Schwarber is batting .308 with nine doubles and eight home runs, slugging .571 against Advance A pitching.

Weekend stats 9-16, 5HR, 2 doubles, 10 RBI....

Had a friend who went Sunday and said he was all anyone was talking about. Said ball just exploded off the bat

Having had the privilege to watch Kyle the last 3 years here at IU, I don't think people understand how sorely missed he will be. Everything jumps off his bat. He gets good barrel on everything, he has great swing mechanics and balance, and has very quick hands. even if it's a single it explodes, and pitchers hate him because he will out work you at the plate every at bat. It's no surprise he's having the early success. We were really spoiled to watch him here at IU because guys like him are truly special. Guys like him don't come around to the college game often. And the best thing about it is, he has earned every bit of the success because of his attitude and effort and respect for the game. He will take his lumps, that's just the game of baseball, but the sky is the limit.
