Saturday low of 17 with chance of a clipper-could game be moved to Lucas Oil ?

The comments that follow are not directed at the elderly, small children or people with medical conditions.

Ok, first, we're not talking Green Bay in January. We're talking 20s during the game, very light wind and a 30% chance of light snow that you can just brush off. Those are not brutal conditions. Wear layers, a hat, cover your ears, wear gloves, double up on socks and YOU WILL BE FINE.

I've been to outdoor NFL games in December and a playoff game in January, all at latitudes north of Bloomington, and survived. No or little wind and staying dry are what matter. I've sat with my teenage son for a night football game with temps in the low 20s, no wind and dry conditions and been perfectly comfortable. I've also sat in wind, rain and 50 degrees and frozen my ass off. Yes, there were a couple of times I ran to the car at the end of the game to get the heat going, but I survived.

Enough with the weather! Move the game inside? Ridiculous. This will be good for the team (and the fans!) and help get them ready for what could be much more severe conditions if they're playing next month in State College or South Bend.

Go Hoosiers!

I think we can go ahead and include the elderly, small children and medical conditions here. It’s “all in” time for everyone. Every last fan in the Hoosier army show up and defend our homeland and die on this hill if we have to! It’s full participation this week.

The elderly are some of the toughest sumabitches around. They’ve fought wars. They’ll be there.

It was 60 degrees for the Michigan game, but there were some old people around me I was worried about!

Why wouldn't they do a Noon start time? At least the damn sun is out.
Because the tv networks completely own college football and the ticket-buying fans get the shaft in multiple ways. What conferences and their individual member schools really deserve is for people to stay home and watch on tv, and let ticket, concession, parking, merchandise, and secondary revenues for the communities go to hell. Of course, we know that ain't gonna happen.

I'll be there, because I want to see us curb-stomp PUke live and because it isn't too inconvenient for me. But if I lived in Evansville, Cincinnati metro, Ft. Wayne, or The Region/Chicago I'd say the hell with it and watch from the comfort of my living room. Freezing my ass off, then driving well after midnight ( or paying outrageous rates for a hotel) isn't something I would do knowing I could stay warm, keep myself stocked with free food and beverages, save the gas money, get a full night's sleep in my own warm bed, and never miss a play on the tube. Eff the B1G for allowing a game to start after dark on the last day of November, and eff IU for allowing the networks take a dump on the heads of loyal fans.

Are New Yorkers tougher than Hoosiers? Hell no!

Can’t remember which game it was, but one of those early season noon games was brutally hot. Then the Maryland game when it rained all day. Now we bookend this season with a freezing night game. I’ll be there, but I’m not sure how enjoyable it’ll be for my crew.
FIU & Charlotte were both brutal.

FIU was hotter on the temperature scale, but Charlotte was sunny, no wind, and not a cloud in the sky. HOT!

Hell, even the WIU game was damn hot until the sun really got down.

Between the use of easily obtained hand warmers and toe/foot warmers along with layers of warm wool/fleece/down/synthetic insulation type clothes (with something wind resistant with a hood as the final layer), combined with a garden style closed cell foam kneeling pad (hidden under your clothes to get it in) to put atop the bleachers to stop conductive heat loss and you're good for 4-5 hours of outdoor comfort...

Trapped air layers are your friend...

The wind is forecast to be from due west so those in the west stands will be shielded from the direct breeze... As long as the game is over by midnight I doubt that a low of 17 (even with windchill factored in) will be experienced...

The Worst case scenario appears to be right around 20 degrees... Which is plenty cold but easily endurable if you're dressed properly...

Wear semi-loose shoes/boots with two pair of socks (at least on thick pair)...Avoid cotton material at all costs if possible... (when cotton gets damp it will stay damp and can cause you all kinds of issues in seriously cold weather)...

Drink some hot chocolate during the first and third quarters and you should stay toasty while you cheer for the Cream & Crimson, and..., for goodness sakes..., if you've gone thru all the trouble to bundle up properly and get there..., stick things out to the very end and be there to celebrate the return of The Bucket and help make the Team aware of how special this particular W really is... If you don't see The Bucket held up to the stands by our Team then you really haven't experienced a Bucket Game...

A decent fleece or wool balaclava that covers your ears along a fleece or wool scarf plus old fashioned style mittens will go a very long way towards ensuring your comfort and should be considered necessities...

Have fun. I envy you...

Here's a decent synopsis of what I was trying to convey above from a more authoritative source (actually I'm an Expert in this area (years of Alpine mountaineering, winter camping, and skiing experience) but there's no way you can verify that so I give you this...):

Someone mentioned in another thread to not wear all your layers while walking to your seats to avoid sweating which is absolutely correct... Any serious sweating can cause a myriad of cascading negative issues that all lead to from very cold to even freezing outcomes...
