Now that it is official that Howard is going pro, I'm certain that the staff will be looking for another running back in this class that compliments Gest and the other backs on this roster. I would like to see IU take a long look at Sam Brodner. He was previously committed to Vanderbilt, but has recently reopened his recruitment. Wisconsin, Illinois and Syracuse are all trying to get involved and are recruiting him as a RB.
He was the player of the year in Illinois. He ran for almost 2000 yards and totaled 47 touchdowns. He ran for over 250 yards and had 4 touchdowns in the state championship game in a winning effort. He plays against solid competition and his school competes in the largest school bracket.
He's 215 lbs and has been clocked with a sub 4.5 40 yard dash. If you watch his highlight video, you see a back that runs with a similar lean as Jordan Howard. He wouldn't necessarily be a great fit in every offense, but he would fit perfectly in our zone read scheme.
Over the summer most schools recruited him as a LB based on his size, but his performance this year on the field has schools reevaluting whether he can be RB. The obvious comparison will be Matt Perez, but I think this kid deserves a long look as he offers a skill set that is different than Gest, Majette and Redding.
