Rumors Galore of Oregon & Washington joining BIG

I wonder how all this works?
Does the conference, through unnamed sources, feel out certain schools?
Do the schools put out feelers?
It would seem to me that plausible deniability would wanted all around.

ND will eventually have to join. Once conferences gobble up the good teams they won’t have a good power 5 schedule. I guess they can keep navy on their schedule.

If they add more schools, I would rather Washington and Oregon than ND. They had their chance and said screw you B1G we're bigger than you, we have a notional following.

Let them beat up on nobodies they schedule where they're guaranteed to win (like Navy). Knowing ND alums they would probably rather do that than play a tough conference schedule they would have no control over.

This will create a huge dilemma for the big reversible jacket crowd that exists at IU. The basketball board will be in a real conundrum.

Schedule nobody? OSU, Clemson, usc..yep nobody

He has this infatuation that hordes of Hoosier fans pull out their Irish gear in the fall. It’s utter bullshit
I was a pastor in Northern Indiana near The Fort. There were a ton of guys like that who loved IU Basketball but loved Notre Dame Football almost as much. Now I would root for ND since they are in Indiana school. When ND played Alabama in the Championship game around 13 I spent the evening with a couple who just loved ND. It wasn't long before we realized Alabama was gonna run away with it. Thankfully we had fellowship and pizza to get us through.

Not quite. I know of 7-10 personally just in Evansville and Newburgh area. Three in Mount Vernon, Indiana. They're out there. And lots of them.
I live in Newburgh. My son and I were in the grocery store and an older couple pointed at his ND shirt(my cousins grew up in new pal area). They were both Auburn alums. We are not big ND fans but I do watch those games.

Do I root for ND when they play Bama, UGA, etc….? Yes. But I’m not a ND fan. I root for UK BB when they play Duke but I’m definitely not a UK fan. I think ole Buffalo exaggerates quite a bit on this issue

I have never been a ND fan. But, have known many devoted Domers. Why would it bother someone that some people root for IU basketball and ND football? I was raised by a devout Buckeye (my mom). I have two degrees from Indiana and I am a diehard IU basketball fan. But, I still root for The Bucks during football season.
Not much I can do about it. The woman indoctrinated my brother and me on Ohio State football. An autographed picture of Woody Hayes hung on the dining room wall. I inherited a Woody Hayes bobble head doll and a buckeye necklace from her, along with a "Once a Buckeye, always a buckeye" button. And....she also loved IU basketball and RMK.

Root for whoever you want, be passionate about it. Loved that about Mom. Great woman, great fan, great example.

While you might have a basis for your split allegiance, MANY don't.

Why myself and others object is that the reversible jackets fans that I know of (4-5), IMO, split their fandom because they follow WINNERS. Yes, I know IU Bball has not had much success lately but the RJ fans I know formed that split when RMK was roaming the sidelines.

One lady came in my business years ago. I think she made a comment about my IU shirt or hat and stated that she was an IU Bball fan and a ND Fball fan. I said, "Oh, you like winners.". She got VERY upset with me.

What was your mom’s connection to OSU? Did she attend school there or grow up in Ohio?

There are thousands of Irish football fans and insert regional college basketball team. ND has been a national brand forever and for a lot of us older folks, ND was really one of the only college football teams you go to see on TV on a regular basis. Not an ND fan by any means, that’s a huge reason why so many are.

So you grew up in a dysfunctional family, is that what you're trying to tell us?

She was born and raised in southern Ohio.
That makes sense.
She’s in the minority though. Most of these guys who “pick” schools, pick winners in the sport if they have no affiliation with the university. It’s a bandwagon mentality. My own dad grew up Catholic and infatuated with ND, as many Catholics do. However, once he came to IU, that association was over. He supported his alma mater and ND ceased to exist for him.

Anyone that grows up in Indiana, or is Catholic , can legitimately root for the Irish. Just do not root for IU and the broilees. That is creepy.
