Now that the excitement of searching for a new coach is over, I guess we can all refresh the pages to see who is leaving and who is staying, coaching staff included. I have NO inside information.

I would like to see the recruiting class of WVU come to IU and join Sisley. I would like to see Josh Dix from Iowa show up in Bloomington this summer and get ready to play next season. If you watch any video of CDD's team on YouTube, 4 out 1 inside but one thing I noticed ... they set picks away from the ball to create shots. They also keep the floor spread. They pass the ball and don't dribble over to hand the ball off (drove me insane when they did that) They play defense. The word "defense" could be a key if MbBako stays or not. Or most likely, his decision will be money based.

I like what I heard yesterday when he talked about recruiting highs school players along with transfer portal players. Building that base with recruiting is good with me. I always thought the portal was good with "filling the holes" after you saw what the roster looked like after the transfer portal was over. My question about the PG that did not follow him to WV but went to DePaul from Drake, why? Was it timing? Rumored he will come to IU.

Can he fix Miles Rice on offense? I think he would like his defense but needs some control on offense. I don't agree with Dakich much if at all but I do agree with him on player retention ... keep the walk-ons and get ride of everyone else left on this roster. Yes Goode got hot, couldn't miss until he played against stronger athletic defenders, Oregon game comes to mind. IMO he whines too much and can't guard a chair on defense. His comments of "don't come back when we start winning" reminded me of "you guys need to chill". CDD or DRock can find another 3 point shooter that is 6'6 or 6'7.

Carlyle ??? How did he ever score over 30 points in a game for Stanford? Would CDD keep him or want to keep him for his defense? I still say build a brand new roster.

Coaching staff is really interesting. How many if any will he retain from IU? Calbert? Hulls? Welsh?, or does Kory Barnett return to Bloomington. Ostrom came with Archie but someone noted he did very well recruiting the state of Indiana. Would he even want to return to Bloomington after all the comments when Archie was fired? Coaches have families too, would he want his family hearing the backlash if he were to return? If there would be any backlash. I know that is part of coaching, I grew up with a high school coach.

I wonder Chester Frazier was a big factor in CDD's WV incoming recruiting class that is ranked high? If a large number of IU fans don't like this hire of CDD they sure are not going to like an Illini on the bench in Assembly Hall. Not that it matters. I say if he is good bring him on the staff.

So, exciting times these next few weeks.

BTW ... as far as what WV fans say or feel ... I don't give a s***.

I would try to salvage Rice, given his defensive capabilities and how his speed wasn't used at all in a walk-the-ball-up-the-court Woody offense. He would be useful in an offense described by its coach as one that likes to score in transition, in 12 seconds or less, against defenses that are not set, with shooters on the wings. That mindset fits Rice's game, if only he can be coached to be a more willing passer and to not play late game hero ball.

We have Sisley still headed here...

New Coach might be able to convince Odih (G/F) to come. Don't know anything about McLean (F) other than he's available (WV former commit)

He might bring Hansberry with him (WV sophomore C/PF).

He is bringing his highly regarded son with him (SF)...

Cupps and Reneau are in the Portal, whether he asks them back is an unknown... I still think both could be molded into decent players with some good coaching... (if they're willing to play Defense)... I'd keep James for the same role he played this past season (practice body C)...

All the returning G's from this seasons group ( that saw the floor) could be riff'd and I wouldn't shed a tear (or even remember their names 2 years from now...

The Portal should be Interesting...

I believe Ostrom would return to IU if asked. The new coach can probably use his in-state HS coaching contacts. He hung out in Bloomington for a full year after being let go before landing a new gig. Never heard a bad word about him or his abilities.

Barnett? I know nothing about his coaching path, other than he was a former IU walk-on player. Think went to UCLA as a grad assistant.

Frazier?? This will be interesting. No issue that he’s a former Illini. The issue was how he acted toward “one of ours” that people have long memories about. Has gained a great rep as a recruiter on multiple staffs.

The wording in MR’s tweet sure sounds like he’s already gone.
