Romania turns back away from the populist right


As someone who doesn’t follow, I have two questions:

How centrist is the guy who won? Sometimes Euro standards are generally father left, but given Romania’s history, not sure that applies.

That’s a large swath of its population that still voted for populist right. What has the trend been in that country?

Yeah, not sure exactly what this means long term for Romania. It's easy for us here to look at a story like this through the lens of North American and Western European sensibilities and think "good for them"...but these former Eastern Bloc satellites and Soviet Republics have long had criminality and corruption and graft and patronage baked into their culture and politics.
