He had a really rough stretch and had been struggling. It's great to see him playing well again. Hopefully, it continues and he has a strong finish to the season. Moving forward, I think he needs to improve the most, if we are going to be a good team, next year. He does already have a knack for hitting big shots. I think he might end up being one of my favorite players to watch develop. He already gets bonus points for telling Purdue, to f#ck off (I assume that's what he said to Painter).

Why would you assume he would say that to Painter? If he did that would reflect poorly on Robert wouldn't it? I'm sure after his college days he would have wished to play in the NCAA tournament.

He has three more years to play in the tournament.

Of course he didn't say that. RP has three years to have a good season(s), I doubt that will be an issue. Besides, even if he had four poor seasons he would still be an IU hoops alumni which is 20X that of a PU hoops alumni.

At least he'll have played for a School that has National Championship Banners when he graduates. :):):)

Rob is a great foundational piece. He is a very smart player in a program that has not been playing smart for a while. Amazing how many bad decisions our seniors make on the floor the last 2 years. Johnson, Newkirk, and Morgan even this year. Decision making just really bad. Race looks like he could be a very smart player as well.

Crean recruited a ton of athletes that happened to play basketball. Very few of his players had any level of BB IQ. Archie seems to value basketball instincts over vertical numbers. That should bode well for the future of the program. Still a couple that need purged from the prior regime.

If we had one more good guard, I can think of a player who wouldn't be in the game to make a dumb foul on a 3 attempt as the clock winds down.

Yeah. He recruited Fitzner instead of a guard. I don't know what Archie was thinking. We have too many bigs that don't play. The need for a guard after last season was pretty apparent.

... and a few that didn't even play much bball... or do so very well!

Who was the grad transfer guard you had in mind?

True. Looking at those banners will give him something to do while everyone else is playing in the NCAA tournament.
Win something. Seriously, you speak of banners yet know nothing about them.

You have no idea what it feels like to see your team win something really big. Until you do, respect the banners or STFU.

IU did pursue Ryan Taylor from Evansville, but Taylor chose Northwestern. Given our shooting woes, Taylor could have been a difference maker for us this year - but not getting him wasn't for lack of trying.

You're right, I don't know anything about them because I'm not a quinquagenarian. Wake up old man, it's not 1987.

... and yet somehow many of your brethren remember a 1932 mythical NC... and a whole bunch of wins from before that?
Ahh the irony when one of those magical banners is from 1940 when the tournament consisted of an entire 8 teams.

And don't worry, you don't have to look that far back. There's plenty of wins to count in the last 5 years.

We need(ed) shooters. He thought Fitzner could provide help there. Hasn’t been what we hoped.

Oh, I wasn't the one questioning the age of OUR banners... you know, ones won in real National tournaments and not bestowed by a committee years later, now was I? You can try and turn it around, but I see how you're twisting in the wind. And, fwiw, I am a friend of PU on here and recognize and often tell my fellow Hoosiers to pipe down about the Boilers until we are beating you regularly again. Tip of the hat to your program and this is one of MP's finest coaching jobs, btw. And yes, while our banners are getting a might dusty and need updating and some company... we both know that at least we have them, and how it must suck to not have ANY, now don't we?

I'm not twisting in the wind. My point has been consistent: They're all irrelevant (yes even that famous mythical 1932). You can't honestly think 18 yos care about what was done 40 years ago, do you? Once that generation's kids go to college and there's nobody left to push their kids to IU...look out

Hmmm, you seem confused... I guess years of frustration of having the better program on the court, but still being the little brother will do that. So they're all irrelevant, but then we have to wait til "that generation" kids go to college and there's no one to push them to IU? So, they're irrelevant or they're not? It's funny but I took my son back to Btown and we visited AH and saw those irrelevant ol' banners when he was 12 from here in NC. Even got to shoot around on the floor, and it was an impressive sight with the banners gently swaying. Guess what school he wanted to go to when it came time to pick a college? When we went to PU, he asked, what's a Helm's Championship, so at least it was educational.

So you have also never seen a Purdue team in the Final 4 and possibly an Elite 8. How pathetic!

Good lord you're dense. I literally explained why, and to whom, they're irrelevant in the very next sentence. Try and keep up.

That's a fun story. Glad basketball championships were the primary criterion for your kid's college selection.

Spoken like a true boiler who has nothing to really hang his hat on. What's the attraction to send kids to WL?

Purdue has a total of 2 FF and 4 elite 8's in the history of the program. Indiana has 2 and 3, respectively since jsut 1990. Despite our problems, we still enjoy more deep tournament success in our 'down period' than purdue has in it's history. Of course you want to make the argument you're making. This year's team is just good enough to lose in the sweet 16 and that will be considered a success.

The only people that think national championship banners are irrelevant...are the one's that do not own one.

Purdue Troll.
Enjoy your Regular Season.

We needed a guard who could shoot not shooters. Eliminate the need for Green to play PG.
Was hard to know how ready De’Ron would be coming off of Achilles surgery. Hindsight is 20/20, but I can understand the thought in the Spring that they may need another big.

Actually, it's just that you're poor at conveying your message, and/or choosing your words... but then again, you are a PU grad... aren't you? Writing's prob not your thing, but not to worry, I bet you play a mean game of D&D!

So, they're irrelevant to 18yos (which I demonstrated first hand, that they aren't), but not to their parents who are pushing them to IU.... which would make them.... wait for it.... relevant! And, no, they weren't the deciding factor, but yes, I think it played a part in making an impression on a 13yo who loved bball, and added to the experience and aura of the school when we visited. Just as the blandness of WL "added" to the "experience" of PU. Of course, he had his parents to guide him, who didn't make decisions based on such things, and he's a happy sophomore at NC St, is doing well and loves it.

They do if you meet the head coach in the parking lot and he gets a Grad Assistant to escort you in. It was really cool. We got to go in to Cook Hall and shot around in there for about 20 minutes, took the below ground tunnel (which at the time had just been painted in candy stripes.. u can see rollers at the bottom of the pic) from Cook into Assembly Hall and then shot around for another 30-40 minutes in there. I've posted the link before, but it was an amazing trip for a couple bball junkies! Priceless when one of them is your son. Pretty cool!

Other sites: Great America Ballpark, Kings Island, Hinkle, New Castle gym, Bankers Life (George Hill w Pacer coach Frank Vogel), Lucas Oil, Victory Field, Southport Fieldhouse (my HS), Howe (exwifes), IMS, Hoosier's Gym, Perry Central's gym, Nicks, Longs Donuts, Mammoth Cave, etc... and a pic of my son with Derek Elston and Coach Crean. Heckuva trip!
