The former Hoosier football player took over for Buck Suhr as the color commentator working with Don Fischer.

Don occasionally gets lost and doesn't remember what down it is or sometimes even who has the ball. Rhett Lewis worked very well with Fish and it certainly did not seem like it was their first broadcast together.

Most notable to me was in the last half minute of the game when the Hoosiers got down to the one yard line and Fish said they've got to spike the ball. And Lewis just flat out said no.

Gotta disagree somewhat.

I think his content was great: he was obviously well briefed for the game. I also think he has a decent radio voice and he speaks clearly.

But he talks too fast. I can understand in a basketball broadcast the need of a color guy to get it out fast, but it’s generally not necessary during football. He also talked *over* Don occasionally. But the thing I can’t stand (and that’s actually *worse* with guys who do television, for some inexplicable reason, since YOU CAN SEE THE GAME FOR YOURSELF - for example, during the PU/Penn State game Thursday, Johnson and Klatt couldn’t shut up for even a moment) was his insistence on filling every second that Don wasn’t speaking with his own chatter.

He needs to slow himself down some.

Still, I think he’s going to be fine. I listen to the Purdue basketball radio guys and shudder to consider that could be us.

I didn’t listen to the entire radio broadcast, just briefly during the 1st half while in the car, but he came off to me as a little too bland. I’d prefer a little less polished approach and more of a homespun style. I’m sure he’ll develop more of a personality with time though.
