Rewind and watch queens eyes in the TO before.

We recruited him and Liam with UConn. Botha re freshman studs. Woody whiffed. Does DD pull these players? We need to recruit and land the queens and the Liam’s.
Liam and Queen both made great decisions not to sign up for the clown show of IU basketball. Hopefully, better days ahead but both kids are obviously surrounded by smart people who told them don’t step foot anywhere near a flaming hot dumpster fire.

There was both a foul and a travel on that play.

The younger fans will dismiss the travel with the "gather" myth.

The older fans will dismiss the foul with the "you can't make that call at that time in the game" myth

No gather myth. Doesn't exist in college.

Knowing rhe rules. How they are written, amd how to apply, is important.

There's not an official worth his salt , rhat would call a travel there

He took 3 steps after discontinuing his dribble.
When did he discontinue? As an official myself, and a respected one, I don't see travel 'jumping " out here. Rule says when rhe dribble ends. And the dribble ending is when one or both hands (usually both), brings the ball to a stop.

Exactly when did that happen? Which foot you have as the pivot? What if as he's ending his dribble, he bubbles the ball? Still a travel?

It's not as clear as some of you think.

You are over thinking it. He stopped his dribble and took 3 steps afterwards.

If I'm over thinking it,.so are the 3 dudes on the floor..the 5 or 6 guys I spoke.to. as well as Gene.

Ever consider you're over thinking it?
Gene is not going to call out the refs after the game.

There are three reasons to not call a travel there:

1. Ref flat out wasn't paying attention.
2. Ref believes in the "gather" myth
3. Ref believes in the "you can't make that call at that point in the game" myth.

The "gather" is a very much a myth among younger college fans, which is why they say no travel there.

There is no gather...it was a travel.
Nope. Not defined as a gather, but...Rule.says dribble ends, when the ball.is stopped by one or both hands. Something like rhat. Amd need to have clear evidence ball has stopped. With CONTROL.

As.an official, no way I'm calling that. It(travel) needs to jump out. Be obvious. It wasn't. Now to folk with absolutely zero training...or knowledge of the rule..or's irs intent---it's a travel. But when two very good officials.pass on it...when GS would have passed on it...when there was absolutely zero argument from.CSU...and when the 5 or 6 guys I spoke with, have no travel--I feel comfortable with the no call.

So let me get this straight, you are a self-professed “respected” basketball official and you’re here to correct everyone on this board? Most of the folks here know a little about basketball. And we’ve watched, played, coached it for 30-60 years. Good luck with that. And although I’m sure I’ll be sorry I asked, but where exactly do you earn all this respect?

Call it what you want... watching that game live... watching replays of it... basically no officials would ever make that call.

Colorado States coach was asked about it in the post game and chuckled and basically said: "it wasn't a travel because the ref didn't call it!" and that's really what it amounts to. I don't think many refs are calling it in that situation. It wasn't egregious as he was picking up the ball with the first step and then took 2 more. Big Dude, he basically starts at the FT line and finishes the play a foot or 2 from the backboard, which isn't ridiculous for a guy his size. I heard GS's explanation too. Could've been called a travel and the MD people would be complaining!

I was always told at my camps..when in doubt, give the benefit to the offense. I can't think of one official who felt it was a travel.

In real time nobody at all was calling for a travel. None of the players on the floor, none of the opposing coaches, none of the announcers.

It looked good to everyone, and even on replay I think it still does.

Would it have been a travel 40 years ago? Sure. Anything that "looked funny" was.

And that is where the disconnect is. The rule hasn’t changed, just the interpretation has.

I’m still trying to figure out why the “Euro step” isn’t just a fancy excuse to cover a traveling violation.
Since they allow three steps anymore, euro step apparently means 'do not have to be in a straight line' .

My frustration is when a 4 inch shuffle is called a travel at the beginning of a move. If steps is Ok so should that. Half the time it's wrong anyway, not a pivot foot slide but it 'looked funny'
Stew Robinson used to get called for a quick shuffle all the time. It was BS, mostly his trademarked head bob and go, but the tiny shuffle, tweet , travel. Guess he should've started his move with a euro step.

You aren't the only ref that would not call it.

But just be honest about why.

I am being honest. It's not a travel. It's borderline. And we were trained that if in doubt, give the benefit of the doubt to the offense.

It's not as obvious as you think. Have to understand when the dribble ends. 99% of the time that is considered when both hands grasp the ball, wirh absolute control.

It has ZERO to do with time. None. But some of you feel offixials won't call it because of that.

Incorrect. It was borderline, in reference to the rule.
