1. I'm not as down on the defense as maybe most. Overall they played pretty well yesterday, stopped the run. Batted down balls at the line. Lot to like from the young safety spot. Crawford and Walton are nice looking players that in 2-3 years could be the strength of this team (mixed with Dutra). Right now though, they have no idea what they're doing back there, they're just playing hard.
2. Big Plays killed IU yesterday (and FIU was stupid for not going after them more). The result of bad tackling by young corners Fant, Brown especially.
3. Sudfeld just does not look as sharp as he did before, and I'm going to put a lot of that on missing WRs that can create space... which leads me to.
4. They have nothing, and I mean NOTHING, in the slot. Paige is ok but damn, they're doing nothing across the middle where guys like Tandon Doss lived.
5. They're using a platoon system of WRs and RBs. Not a big fan, would like to see them mix it up a little more. Offense still feels very vanilla.
6. Jordan howard is close to channeling the Bad trent richardson. In the first half he ran right in the back of Feeney instead of making 1 cut to the outside where he had 10 yards of running room. That said, the guy is a beast and he plows through defenders. We'll see how that works against B1G defenses like MSU.
7. Red Zone play calling.... UGLY. Thats on you Coach.
8. Would like to see Nate keep it on the read a few more times. That said, Nate... no taking tackles. Slide baby. Need to keep the defense honest.
9. Good for Ricky Jones. He looks like a Legit offensive threat.
10. Just can't help but think about this years possibilities if a few things had gone differently, or a few guys would have panned out. Hunter transferring, Antonio Allen being a dumbass, Kenney never panning out, and Booth being a big question. He wasn't at the game yesterday, I looked, a lot. Camion Patrick passing Finite. Adding just Hunter and Allen takes this defense and makes is pretty decent IMO. Patrick is the real deal (from what I'm told), he and Ricky Jones could have been a hell of a combo.
Time to watch Colts... I don't think this is a bowl team. Just don't. In the B1G West they win 6-7 games. B1G East teams are going to pass all over this team and they won't have a playmaker like Coleman to score with team.
If I'm Wilson I'm all in for some Juco CB in this class. I'd bring in at least 2
