Recruiting Recruiting Recruiting

Cig has me believing...I expect a winning season and a bowl.

I think we build on this season and in a few years...we'll see Cig's best IU team...and it will be one where when we face ND or OSU or Alabama, etc. It's billed as a clash of the Titan.
I expect 10 wins. And we play well usually against Penn State in general. And Oregon will have a new team…..We won last time in Eugene. Haha

The beauty of Cig is that we will win the ones that we are supposed to and that will keep us in bowl contention year after year. Can we get to Iowa or Wisconsin status?
His offense will get us a lot of wins, and our defense stood firm even in games where our offense wasn’t going well. They gave us more than a chance lastnight. I’d build my case around the fact that Coach Cig built this team in a month essentially. Give him some time and we will compete against everyone.

I’m a believer. My statement was purely complimentary. I think he will have us winning 7-9 games annually with the occasional big year. Again, attaining Iowa and Wisconsin success for 20 years is a reasonable goal. I have critiques for last night, but my support for CCC is unwavering.

Your point is valid, but I doubt CCC sees it that way at all. I believe he has much loftier goals than Iowa or Wisconsin. Truth be told, he might’ve already passed them. I’d bet he’s targeting OSU and Penn State.

Herein lies the problem… in order to make people feel like we belonged, we abandoned all the reasons why we belonged. If the goal was brand protection then we have failed completely on top of losing the game. Give me a team that loses by 40 on the road by forcing the other team to make plays versus a team that looks absolutely shellshocked and scared to compete. Our brand has now taken on a five minute diatribe by the announcers explaining why we didn’t belong in the game and shouldn’t belong there in the future. It had Lane Kiffin dunking on us for a national audience. And despite what we know, there is nothing about last nights game that provided any evidence to the contrary because we were too scared to put any evidence out there. Our brand is light years ahead of where it was six months ago, but I worry about a quarterback like Mendoza seeing our refusal to open things up.

I know that I am coming off highly negative, and I assure you am not one of these guys falling fans that I’ve been shaking my head at all morning. I remain confident what we have looking at, but I am just confounded by what we put out last night.
Okay, first off I am a Purdue grad that hasn't followed collegiate football for a lot of years until this season. BUT The ND game and coach Cig's approach to it were VERY reminiscent to what happened at Purdue and to Tiller once they had some success going to the Rose Bowl. After that game, it seemed Tiller and his staff played more to keep it close and steal one rather than going out having fun, throwing it all over the field, and playing loose and aggressive with no worries about how it looks.

I have no doubt that CCC likely has loftier goals. For clarity sake, while UW has had a so so last couple of years, there was a 9 year stretch where they won 10+ games in seven of the seasons. I think CCC can, but now comes the tall task of stacking these seasons.

I’m confused about the comment that our entire program “top to bottom was embarrassed by Notre Dame.” We ran into a better team with better recruits. They’ve been recruiting 5 star kids for decades. Were in year 1 of a new coach who brought together an entire group of kids from multiple schools. We got beat. By better personnel. Period. We didn’t give up 66 points. Notre Dame has been losing CFP games long before we made our first. Disappointed but not embarrassed. If we were embarrassed, we are in really good company going all the way back to the 4-team CFP where teams (including the one we just played) lost by 27-30 points in their contests.
I was being harsh. I've calmed down. I really meant that the difference between a program that has been competing at this level for over 100 years vs IU was pretty stark from the top down. It's great experience for IU and they are on their way. Now the university, coaches and even the fans know what to do reach another level. We fans must fill the rock every game. No matter what.

I don't think the difference was that stark. Our defense was up to the task until late in the game. Our offense wasn't. But past IU offenses under Wilson showed that 2 and 3 stars guys can score. And we scored against some half decent B1G defenses during the year. Rourke was harrassed at Notre Dame, but it wasn't hopeless.

Yeah, we were outmanned the final two or even three games. Cig's shell-shocked postgame after Ohio State showed that. "They got some guys..." He didn't show that after Notre Dame, or before the Notre Dame game.
