Race not done??

Whether or not Race is here next year, we will be developing a good core of young players. But it helps to have upperclassmen who can lead by example. And I sense Race is one who can help there as a hard worker who lays it on the line on both sides of the ball. Maybe the same can be said for X?

Either way, young players from this year will need to step up next year. Based on what I saw against Purdue when we had foul trouble, I see no reason why we can’t be a little better next year. The team may surprise you. We shall see
Yeah, because this group has surprised us in a positive manner so often? You recall the definition of insanity?

That's completely insane, you'd rather gamble on a good NIT bid next year than start with real development?
See, that my friend is not the question you asked. Now that you have asked this question I will answer it. I do NOT think 10-15 extra minutes per game is where real development happens. I have coached a lot of basketball in my life and in my experience 90% of real development happens in practice, during extra work by playes/coaches, and in the off season.

Therefore the ONLY thing that happens if IU didn’t allow Race to come back is we would lose more games. So yes I would rather be a bubble team or NIT team around 18-ish wins again, than loss more games and hurt recruiting more for no reason.

Prepare to be in the NIT for the next 5 years if you want to give PT and emphasis on getting back to the NIT on keeping an OK player for 6 years and not recruiting and developing new players

Unreal. So you are laying the possible continued mediocrity of the program all on the possible return of ONE player? The same player that IMO, was better than our all American the last part of the season?

Not to mention, as someone else pointed out, the real progress or development of a player is in practice. As a matter of fact, I think the argument could be made that if Race returns it would be GOOD for the development of a player like Logan since he would have to go against Race every day in practice.

A prime example of internet hyperbole. IU is going to suffer 5 years because of ONE player coming back.
Come on, seriously!

He has his undergrad degree, might have his postgraduate and could at least start on another. Why wouldn’t players not take advantage of this situation unless they’re a surefire first round NBA pick? They have lives after basketball.
Because they might realize and be that they DO have a good life after bball

I think that's why you are a former coach, we need a new core that is not accustomed to losing is acceptable, ever. Taking on a role player for year 6! in hope of making the NIT is not progress or program building. Let's face it, we're going to suck next year and NIT is probably the ceiling, let it be real rebuilding if we have to suffer again. I didn't suggest extra minutes for anybody, I said throw them all to fire and see how it shakes out, only then you'll know. Your not going to learn that from spot time in games or practice, games are the rehearsal for the next game, cause we're gonna suck anyways. Some coach you must have been. They will win when they get sick of losing and learn how to win and expect to win all of them.

Every time I read one of your posts I thank God you have zero influence on our basketball program. Your ideas are nuts and would set the program back for decades.

Never claimed I did have any influence, I just call it as I see it. By not bring Race back for a 6th year, that's going to set us back decades? Good God, if it's come to that. If that's the case, we should both entertain the idea of cryogenics to see another banner.

Yes, it is unusual now, most of these guys come in with 1/3 their stuff completed in high school and on track to graduate IU in 3, so yeah, either he's dragged his feet or I hope there is a doctoral program he can get admitted to. This is maybe more egregious than Jess Settles
Nah

No, if IU basketball did all the things you suggest in your posts it would not only set the program back decades, it would likely destroy it. Your suggestions are generally nutty.

I'll go a step further, neither of them has any pro potential on this planet
Maybe. I am not a scout nor do I even follow the pros. So it is my guess that with some improvement both could make money in the pros. Maybe Europe over the nba but still making good money.

Lol I walked away from coaching a number of years ago. I was no where near the level of a college coach but ask any coach who does it as a job if what you are saying is a good idea. It is not. I would guess somewhere in the neighborhood of 95+ % would think your idea is incredibly short sighted and an overreaction. Especially in college where every year’s results matters for who might choose to come play for your team. Race coming back sacrifices nothing except wins next year.

I am more concerned with a few seasons down the road. If we bring most everyone back and get a couple of portal players I can see us being perhaps a little better next year. But, how does that help us in the future?

whether next year we are on the wrong side of the bubble, or on the right side does it really matter long term?

At some point we need to rip the bad aide off. Why delay the inevitable rebuild?

It may be uglier for a year, possibly 2 but perhaps that is best for the long haul.

the Cheaney class had a losing conference record as freshmen, but they developed together.

I’m not convinced we can change the culture without changing the players and having them develop and mature together.
I would be concerned about recruiting players to a team that has been sub-par since they were in elementary school. Another year of Race would help in a big way.

Ok. The young guys won’t develop at all and Race and X are straight garbage. You’re brilliant. There. Just how you want it 🙄
