Purdue owns us in Athletics.

Yup...lets blame the current AD for the 2nd season of an almost total rebuild using the previous coach's recruits as the only ones with a full year experience in the system. Bring up the football program that outside of a few years has been one of the worst in the history of D1 football? Care to bring up soccer? Baseball? Track and field? A solid volleyball hire in, by far, the toughest volleyball conference in the nation? Budget? Improvement to facilities? I'm sure Glass is really the problem and not your lack of understanding of what an AD does....

We won't even talk about Women's basketball being ranked for the 6th time in history after being the laughing stock of the B10 since the 80's....

Who gives a crap about non-revenue sports? Football and men’s basketball are all that matter and both have been below average under Glass. That clown has had a decade to make his stamp on IU athletics and the results suck. Fred is the Tom Crean of ADs- a slick salesman, gimmicky con artist. Eventually people like that get exposed. It just takes a long time at IU for people to realize it.

Why did Glass allow the basketball program to deteriorate to the point where it needed a total rebuild? He has had ten friggin years to build a decent football program and even with all of the money from the BTN pouring in it still sucks.

Fred went cheap and hired an Asst Football coach from within, resulting in a doward spiral in IU football, no bowls and 0-2 vs Purdue. Glass gave Crean 9 years with an extension in the middle, with no Elite 8s or Final Fours. Then Fred fired him. Crean failed to consistently recruit Indiana HS talent.

The Lawyer Athletic Director is working out pretty well.
I agree Glass is a bad AD. He can make a good hire now and then, but he is failing in many areas. One area is letting interest and exposure of our programs fade in the state. It has happened slowly and may not be noticeable in Indy or Bloomington. (see my post on poor radio coverage).

Being swept this weekend in 3 sporting events at Purdue was bad. Further insult was only having a Purdue radio broadcast in the 3rd largest city in the state. That is is poor management and contract negotiations. Learfield is screwing IU. Glass is letting it happen. We have to do better.

So soccer, volleyball, baseball, women's BBall, and track and field should keep an AD employed when football and men's BBall struggle?

If say Alabama or Ohio State had a crappy football program, would it really matter if the AD brought respectability to their secondary athletic programs?

How about Kentucky or NC if their men's BBall programs struggle? Would it matter if Kentucky had success in volleyball or NC was successful in track and field?

The most important job of an AD at major university (esp one with a tradition of success) is to maintain (or create) success in the major revenue-producing sports.

With Duke winning in bball and being respectable in football, do you honestly believe Kevin White would be fired (or judged negatively) for a lack of success in non-revenue sports?
