The Boilers will have LHP Jonathan Blackwell on the mound with an ERA of 5.40 in 63.1.

It's 81 and cloudy, and the chance of rain is not high and the hourly forecast has rain chances at 15 pct for the rest of the afternoon. The wind is minimal blowing toward RF at 3 mph.

Risedorph then got a K for two outs and the runner still at 2nd.

A flyout retired the side.

B2nd:

It's the bottom of the order up with Jessee leading off. Jessee walked on four pitches.

Cerny walked on a full count to put runners on 1st and 2nd and no outs.

A SAC bunt by Serruto moved the runners to 2nd and 3rd and one out with the top of the order up.

3rd Inning:

T3rd:

It's the 8 thru 1 hitters up for the Boilers. Risedorph K'd the leadoff hitter.

A single thru the infield puts a runner on with one out. A lineout to Glasser resulted in the 2nd out and the runner still at 1st.

Serruto then threw out the runner trying to steal 2nd to retire the side. Purdue came into the series as a team that likes to steal.

B3rd:

It's the 3-5 hitters up for IU. Taylor K'd to lead off. Tibbitts singled to put a man on and one out.

Mathison singled to put runners on 1st and 2nd and one out.

Pyne tripled to score both Tibbitts and Mathison to make it 4-0 with one out.

Jessee, the hot home run hitter, clubbed a homer that just got over the LF fence to make it 6-0.

4th Inning:

T4th:

It's the 2-4 hitters up for the Boilers with Kraft starting to warm up in the bullpen. Risedorph K'd the leadoff hitter. Whalen then caught a fly against the CF wall for the 2nd out. Risedorph then K'd Purdue's leading hitter in Parr to retire the side. Risedorph was at 46 pitches in the four innings pitched.

B4th:

It's the top of the order up with Glasser leading off and Purdue still has their starting pitcher in there.

Glasser doubled to lead off. Whalen lined out for the first out with Glasser still at 2nd.

Taylor walked on four pitches to put runners on 1st and 2nd and one out.

With Tibbitts at a 1-0 count, Purdue went to the bullpen and brought in RHP Jackson Dannelley with an ERA of 6.10 in 31 IP. Dannelley averages just over a K an inning and has given up 11 extra base hits on the season so far.

Tibbitts popped it up on an infield fly rule for the 2nd out.

Mathison tripled to left center on a controversial play to score two runs as it looked like the outfielder went over the fence to catch the ball but lost it bringing it back in, and it stood as a triple after a protest from the Purdue coach. It just missed being a three-run homer.

Pyne singled to score Mathison to make it 9-0 with two outs and a runner at 1st.

A WP moved Pyne to 2nd. Jessee grounded out to end the inning.

5th Inning:

T5th:

It's the 5-7 hitters up and former Hoosier Paul Toetz reached on an infield hit to start the inning.

Mercer went to the bullpen to bring in LHP Ryan Kraft with an ERA of 1.94 in 51 IP. It was an excellent start for Risedorph.

After several pitches, Kraft walked his first batter faced on a full count to put runners on 1st and 2nd and no outs.

Kraft then walked another batter to load the bases and no outs.

Purdue brought in a pinch hitter to hit for the No. 8 spot and it was the same pinch hitter (Franco) that hit a homer in yesterday's game, and Kraft K'd him for the first out and the bases still loaded.

Kraft then got another K for two outs and the bases still loaded.

With the top of the order up, Kraft hit a batter to bring in Purdue's first run.

Kraft who has not been sharp gave up a two-run triple that could have been three runs but one of the Purdue runners missed a bag and was tagged out for the final out.

B5th:

It's the 8-1 hitters up for IU and Cerny was hit by a pitch to reach as the leadoff hitter.

Serruto tried to bunt but struck out for the 1st out and we are at the top of the order with Glasser up.

Cerny stole 2nd with one out. Glasser K'd for the 2nd out. Whalen fouled out to end the inning.

6th Inning:

T6th:

Kraft was back out there to face the 3-5 hitters, and he K'd the leadoff hitter. The next batter reached on an infield single. A DP retired the side.

B6th:

It's the 3-5 hitters up with Taylor leading off and Dannelley is still out there for Purdue.

Taylor K'd to lead off and IU has been really quiet of late at the plate since the 4th.

Tibbitts remained hot and singled for his 3rd hit of the game and one out.

Mathison was then hit by a pitch to put runners on 1st and 2nd and one out.

Pyne reached on a FC with Tibbitts forced at 3rd for two outs and runners at 1st and 2nd.

Purdue pitchers have been flirting with a pitch count violation all game long and they finally got called for one.

Jessee also remained hot and he singled to score Mathison with Pyne reaching 3rd with runners now on the corners and two outs. Cerny grounded out to end the inning.

B7th:

It's the 9 thru 2 hitters up for IU with Serruto leading off.

Serruto led off with a double and the top of the order up in Glasser.

Glasser K'd for the 2nd time in the game and he is one of the tougher hitters to K in the B1G.

Whalen flied out for the 2nd out with Serruto taking 3rd and Whalen has been quiet at the plate today.

Taylor grounded out to end the inning.

9th Inning:

T9th:

Kraft was back out there to close the game out and he faced the 6-8 hitters. Kraft got a pop up to 1B for the first out. He then gave up a ground-rule double to put a man in scoring position with one out.

Two straight flyouts to Whalen ended the game and IU has won the series and will go for the sweep tomorrow.

IU 15 Purdue 3 (Final)

IU became the first team to secure a spot in the B1G tournament with the win and the Terps can follow suit if they win tonight. IU's bats obviously stayed red hot as they outhit the Boilers 16 to 8. The pitching was pretty good and Risedorph had a really good game as the starter with Kraft not having his usual top shelf stuff, but he was good enough to hold the Boilers down for 5 innings.

As I indicated, IU outhit the Boilers 16 to 8 and IU was 16 for 39 for a team batting average of .410, and they had 4 homers, 2 triples, and 4 doubles. Purdue was 8 for 32 for a team average of .250. IU had six multi-hit players and here are some of the stats:

Tibbitts: 4 of 5 with a double and a homer, 2 RBIs and he scored 2 runs.
Jessee: 2 of 4 with a homer, 3 RBIs and he scored 2 runs.
Pyne: 2 of 5 with a triple, 3 RBIs and he scored 2 runs.
Mathison: 2 for 2 with a triple, 2 RBIs and he scored 3 runs.
Glasser: 2 for 6 with a double and homer, 3 RBIs, and he scored 2 runs.
Cerny: 1 for 3 with a homer, 2 RBIs, and he scored a run.
Serruto: 2 for 4 with a double and he scored a run.
Taylor also doubled and scored two runs.

There were no errors in the game.

IU used just two pitchers, saving arms for the potential sweep tomorrow. The freshman Risedorph started the game and was really good thru 4 IP. He started the 5th but gave up a leadoff infield hit and was replaced by Kraft with the runner eventually scoring for the only run charged to Risedorph. Kraft, who got the win, wasn't his usual self, but he had enough to close the game out over 5 innings as I indicated in the opening paragraph. Actually, it was the 5th inning where Kraft struggled to get through it and Purdue got their only runs of the game. For the most part, he pretty much throttled them the rest of the way. Here are the pitching stats:

Risedorph: 4.0 IP, 3 hits, 1 run which was earned, 4 Ks, no BBs, and 1 balk.

Kraft: 5.0 IP, 5 hits which included two doubles and a triple, 2 runs both earned, 4 Ks, 2 BBs, and two hits batters.

Around the B1G today:

Maryland 14 Minnesota 5 - Maryland (14-6) got back on track after last night's game and got back into a tie with IU, and they also secured a spot in the B1G tournament with the win. The Terps outhit the Gophers (8-12) just 12-9 and it was an error-plagued game with the Gophers committing two errors to three errors for the Terps.

Iowa 8 MSU 6 - Iowa (12-7) moved into 3rd place after Rutgers (12-8) lost tonight and the Hawkeyes remain a game and a half behind IU and MD. MSU (10-10) has now lost five straight conference games and along with Purdue (10-10), they have fallen behind by a half game with Illinois who beat Rutgers tonight, and one of those three teams will be on the outside looking in when tournament time comes around in the B1G. Minnesota will also have a chance to be that last team in, but with a game left with Maryland and then three at home with Rutgers, it won't be easy for them and the best they can do is finish 12-12, but they would have to win out to get there.

Illinois 9 Rutgers 7 - Rutgers (12-8) fell to 4th place and in a tie with Nebraska and Michigan, and two games behind IU and MD. It snapped a 5-game winning streak for Rutgers in B1G play. It was a big win for Illinois (12-11) as they moved into 7th place ahead of Purdue and MSU by a half game. Illinois has one game left on their B1G schedule and that's tomorrow and a win tomorrow will put all kinds of pressure on the Boilers and Spartans.

Michigan 5 Northwestern 2 - Michigan (12-8) is in a tie after today's game with Nebraska and Rutgers for 4th place. Northwestern (3-17) may not win another game this season. The Wildcats finish out the season with four home games, but it's against Notre Dame and a series with Iowa, so good luck with that.

Nebraska 5 PSU 2 - The Huskers (12-8) are in a tie with Michigan and Rutgers after tonight's game. The Huskers grabbed a 5-0 lead, with PSU (6-13) scoring two runs fairly late as the Nittany Lions have lost 6 straight games and 5 straight in B1G play.

OSU over UNC-Greensboro, 6-1 and 5-1 - The Buckeyes (6-15) took a DH from UNC-Greensboro in a series that was meaningless except to the programs involved.

There are still games going on in all time zones as I post this, but IU currently sits at No. 28 in the RPI pecking order right now.
