Only a few have bounced around and didn’t come from UNLV. Definitely the minority.
I’m curious what it looks like in a year. But this is a big difference. Purdue doesn’t have that main sports sugar daddy. All goes to the university. Maybe Brees will become one in time.
His money probably all goes to Texas A&M
7 of the 22 are from UNLV. A lot from Arkansas. Another PU former starter at S just hit the portal.

Correct. A lot from Arkansas. Lots of connections on staff to the Arkansas team. Through coaches and Odom recruiting them a couple of years ago. They aren’t just randoms they are taking a chance on like the Georgia guys.
Grad transfer. Covid year, redshirt year/medical injury year, 3 years working back up. This was his first year back though.

No contract in history says "you can have as much money as you want". And I highly doubt you believe that is the best staff money could buy with a blank check.

What’s wrong with the staff? Is it not good? Good DC, good ST coach, little bit of an unknown as an OC, but he can certainly build an OL, so we will see what happens. Assistants look good. Lots of analyst. Obviously not bamas staff, but looks good.
Nothing is wrong with it but I doubt they are the who's who of highest paid at their positions, which would be the case if you were right that Purdue gave Odom a blank check for his staff.
Sounds more like Purdue was being purposely vague and making sure they had control over assistant hires vs how iu gave cigs an amount in which he could use as he saw fit. But even cigs had a limit on what he could spend, just like every other coach.
Regardless, your claims of blank check for assistants is horse ....
It's not unlimited because it says other staff must be "mutually agreed upon" and structure/comp is "competitive," which is very much not "unlimited." FYI it's worse they didn't put a staff budget number in there, that is a more noncommittal approach.
And as IndyResident pointed out, PU's hires are not particularly expensive people. That's fine, but it's clear PU is not spending big on staff. And thinking staff budget is unlimited is naive to begin with.
Special teams coach might be one of the top in the county. Defensive coordinator looks good. It’s hard to say if it has anything to do with iu. They might be paying a similar amount.
I guess that’s your opinion. Again, i think the staff looks pretty solid. And lots of analyst and back room people. But I disagree on the noncommittal part. Purdue proved to be pretty committed to being good at football this offseason.

No. I understand just fine. You said Purdue took a non committal approach because it has to be “mutually agreed upon” even though that amount could be 12 million for all you know. I say Purdue is committed because they have spent 25 million + this offseason to fix football. 25 mil that I think was said Purdue couldn’t afford because they have no money on this board at some point.
Na. I think Walter’s is the right hire, but I’m much more cautious. He’s definitely better than a 4-8 at best coach. He’s probably better than a 6-6 at best coach. But it could take a couple years to build it up. There are stats to prove Odom is better.
You will need 500 of them at Brees’ level. He has millions but lots of people do and the need is staggering these days
