PSU, MSU and now OSU

B10/14 ADs beginning to take on something of a 'sordid' rep. For all the crit leveled at Glass and IU for what they're not doing right, something to be said for what they're not doing wrong.

Yeah, our AD is incompetent and can’t field a competitive team in either of the two major sports, but at least he isn’t an unethical scumbag/potential criminal. Said no one, ever. That should be a given. Don’t construe it as some kind of feather in Fred’s cap.

Didn't really but will construe you as an idiot if only for your apparent inability to discern between "competitive" and "winning" (see MSU hoops this year and OSU football the last several).

Post wasn't intended as praise so much as relief that IU is seemingly distant/safe from such idiocy, and moreover, that three of the Conference's flagship programs are guilty of criminal neglect by their administrations.

Some things never change. Haters have to hate.

Ya, we fired a 5-win asshole football coach for a 5-win nice guy football coach. Sorry it shattered your fragile psyche...

meanwhile fred wins another title.

Again, how, exactly, is he incompetent? The athletic department was in the red (meaning losing money, which by our own standards the AD doesn't "borrow" taxpayer or tuition money, at least anymore). The football program is on the verge of top 25 level for the first time in as long as I can remember (if ever) despite playing in, by far, the toughest division in D1. The basketball program was destroyed when we hired Sampson (after being damaged severely the previous ~10 years). The athletic facilities are becoming top notch when they were extremely out of date and non-competitive when Glass took over (go look at home many recruits, especially football, mention the facility upgrades as a factor in committing). That is with a negative budget when he took over. All the sports programs, across the board, are trending up. This leaves me with the 4 reasons you are so butt hurt about Glass (and he did NOT hire Crean, fyi, since the Glass heaters love revisionist history): 1. You think it is normal for a college program to act like a professional one and fire a coach a year removed from winning 2 of 3 conference championships with an almost 10 million dollar buyout. (Which it either would have HAD to have been that way OR we would have had to not extend Crean after 2012, give him less than 3 years on his contract, and therefore make sure he couldn't recruit beyond the Senior class, as even the senior class coming in would be the 2nd year of the 3 he had left).
2. Getting rid of Wilson or not bringing in an expensive coach that wouldn't have come to a program that hasn't won a bowl game in 25+ years and at least recently, was the losingest major conference program in history? Maybe, like with basketball, some patience is needed to build from next to nothing? On paper, this looks like the best football team in years.

3. You have no patience and think, similar to in the pros, it's possible to remake a roster in <3 years. There is no free agency. There are no trades, and recruiting, especially in limited time and with a family base like you, does not always work the way you want. Players pick schools/coaches. Ir isn't a draft.

4. FG peed in your Cheerios? I'm not saying is was right of him to do it, but if he does it more than once, shouldn't you stop leaving your Cheerios unattended around him? At some point it is more your fault than his.

Anyway, I don't think the AD does the things you seem to think are his responsibilities. He has done a damn good job considering what he took over. Get over the butthurt and be a fan or else find someone else to root for. With your mindset, professional sports would probably be the best to follow. Rosters are easier to change. Salary caps help make sure quality players are at least somewhat divided to different teams, and most unsuccessful programs love changing coaches as soon as they have a bad season. Perfect for you to root for coaches/GM'S to get fired for no real reason! How great does that sound?! Maybe you can pretend you are Trump from the Apprentice so you can pretend you have the power you are craving and start screaming "You're fired!" when the program inevitably changes coaches every 2 to 3 years because no coach ever has time to build/establish a program! That once every 10-30 years they are competitive you might have to "cheer" for a new coach to be fired....I mean new team for a while, but with the way you want the program run, you won't have to worry about that for more than a year or two. Either way, have fun "enjoying" your new professional sports franchise fandom! Make sure you stay away from teams like the Spurs, Patriots, Steelers, etc. They like to win games. So, they don't give up on solid coaches 2 years in. Good luck! Wait....that would be the opposite of what your ideas would want...Hope they lose enough to fire their coach this year for you!

IU football is not close to Top 25, and very unlikely will ever be under Allen.
I think Archie can easily achieve Top 25 IU Basketball given enough time.

Well you provide such compelling facts to go along with your matter-of-fact opinions, I don't know how anyone could possibly retort.

No it's not and Glass still sucks.

This is quite the intellectual response. Not sure how to counter back on this. You're a regular James Carville.

You're an idiot (or trolling) and should refrain from ever posting again about anything football related if you think IU is on the verge of being a top 25 program. Darkhawk was trolling and doesn't even believe it.

Thinking we're going to be a Top 25 team next year isn't exactly intellectual either.

Oh really? You MIGHT want to re-read his post because I am certain he didn't merely state that line and leave it at that. He had a manifesto explaining why he thought that which then allows anyone to provide a counterargument worth reading. Instead, we get responses consisting of only slander with absolutely no substance. So I am not stating his opinion or yours is incorrect, just looking for more substance to support your side (or anyone's side) of the debate.

I am 100% certain I didn't state that. I merely said your response was highly intellectual. Your follow-up response to me only doubled down on that theory. You are the reason people can't stand certain message boards. It's not the opinion that matters as much as the dialogue and you, my friend, provide nothing.

IU football is not close to being ranked in Top 25. This is fact. I believe IU Basketball was ranked in Top 25 last season before the B1G season under Archie. I believe this is also fact.
IU football had a losing season under Allen. IU Basketball had a winning season under Archie.

Has IU football ever been ranked in the Top 25 in the last 50 years? IU football is not close to being ranked in Top 25. This is fact.

Yes, IU has been ranked many times in the last 50 years.

The issue with you is you want sunshine constantly pumped up your a#% and get offended when people tell you the truth. If you weren’t so arrogant you would have learned from your Crean posts that you don’t know anything about IU sports (or you have blinders on). Instead here you are, again, defending a poster who claimed IU football is on the verge of a top 25 program.

Of course you try to disguise it as improper dialogue, which is a lie. Darkhawk’s post had several comments that were defamatory, but you didn’t seem to care at all about them. As, a matter of fact, you liked his post. So, save me your self righteousness about proper board etiquette.

You do have two great options to never read posts from me that hurt your feelings.

1. Don’t post ignorant stuff about IU sports (highly unlikely).
2. Use the ignore function

Cheers my friend.

I'm not offended at all aside from your improper use of the English language. With that said, at no point does anyone want sunshine pumped anywhere. If you have issues with his post, then call those out. You did nothing of the sort.

Also, at no point did I defend anyone. What does Crean have to do with anything and by all means, please prove your point with some proof. Now you are just spouting off nonsense because you don't have a leg to stand on here.

I am merely calling you out on your nonsense and that apparently upsets you. If you don't like being called out, then please follow your own thought process.

Cheers!

I don’t care. I only responded to you because you quoted me. Your opinion isn’t interesting to me and you’re a liar. You defended Crean until the end.

Also, at no point did you provide any facts or evidence on why my claim that IU football isn’t on the verge of becoming a top 25 team is wrong. You instead just insulted me.

The last time I remember IU being ranked in FB was during the Mallory years in the late '80s or early 90s. (Edit: this matches what the link above shows.)

I doubt IU will be ranked any time soon. Looking at the polls for the last couple of seasons, they finished ranked in the 70s each time. This season they have the 39th ranked (by 2 services) recruiting class. This is an improvement in the right direction from the past and should make them a better team than they have been in the future but unlikely a top 25 caliber team. They are also in a very difficult division of the B1G playing against some teams that are often ranked in the top 5 or 10 almost every year and others that are consistently top 25. Many of the schools in the conference, and this division in particular, often have much better talent than IU.

This is where it comes down to coaching. Allen has done a good job of recruiting but the team is still lacking in talent compared to most of their in-conference competition. They've often been competitive with these teams but haven't been able to get wins. They need to be able to win against some of these teams before they'll be ranked.

Are you actually lauding the basketball season last year? You’ve thrown out the NIT reference several times. That’s nothing to hang out hat on.

Lol Did you just give me a topic and side of an arguement I am supposed to defend without me saying which side of it I was on? You make no sense at all.

No, I just called your personal justifications for baseless controversy with Crean, as worthless. As I have proven yet again here today. Don't be upset simply because you always make yourself look foolish. Just get better.

Cheers!

I like you over here (the basketball forum) but Really don't care for your attitude towards football...

TA is building a winner and that's true despite having restrictions most of the big dogs don't have. We are on the right track with Tom Allen.

I think Archie can get it done too but I did wonder about some of our players making the same mistakes over and over last season...

Would have loved to have seen Archie find a way to bring in Mike Lewis in some capacity... Maybe that would help in some small way...

I want TA to win.
But I just think he is in way over his head, beyond Mike Davis over his head. IU football has arguably been the worst Power 5 conference football program in my lifetime. I think it will take a major hire of a charismatic winning coach to seismically change the future trajectory of IU football. If Tom Allen does that in his career, then a bronze statue in his honor should be erected outside Memorial Stadium. I have never attended an IU football game in which IU won. I have travelled to the big house to watch IU score over 40 points and still lose to UM. I have attended Bucket games only to lose to PU. I have travelled to Columbus only to watch IU lose. Something needs done but a perpetual cycle of hope followed by 4-8, and 5-7 seasons that follow is immensely deflating. IU football is holding IU basketball back by not being sucessfull and bringing in the large stadium football dollars of other college football powers.

Could ignore the double misspelling, not the inane non-sequituir.

The only thing "holding IU basketball back" is IU Basketball.

Well..., obviously you're the problem...;):D

Please stop attending football games!!!!!!!!

You didn't kill any albatrosses in your youth did you? Kick any goats out of bars? Hang out with Myles Brand?

All I can tell you is I think we are getting better incrementally. It's a lot harder to turn around a 120 plus man football team then it is a 13 plus man basketball team.

This myth that with enough money we could get any football coach in the country to come here is exactly that: a myth. No coach at the highest level (who could get the same money elsewhere) is dropping all other potential jobs to come here for multiple reasons that have already been covered in detail over on the football board...

So... once again..., from the heart...,: Please stay home and do yard work on football game day...;), you'll be happier and we might gain just the edge we need to beat most of that schedule we've been dealt...:D

IU’s only restriction is the lack of necessary commitment to football, and the lack of necessary commitment is why they’ll never have a winning program.

It’s time for both TA and Archie to put up or shut up. They’ve both been complete busts so far. Next year is huge for both. Their time is running out if it doesn’t come together soon.

Yeah, our AD is incompetent and can’t field a competitive team in either of the two major sports, but at least he isn’t an unethical scumbag/potential criminal. Said no one, ever. That should be a given. Don’t construe it as some kind of feather in Fred’s cap.

Indiana is competitive in both football and basketball. Just not good enough yet! But we have not seen season #3 for either new coach. Watch, think, then opine!

NIT is postseason play equal to a low level bowl that IU has only been to a handful of times in 50 years.

IU had a losing record in football under Allen. Not Bowl eligible.
Not competitive.
Football no post season play.
I expect another losing season in IU football.
