Was reading today that Pat Chambers is on the hotseat. Could that be a landing spot for Alford?

Chambers' contract was just extended last year. It would be a large buyout for a PSU basketball coach. And I'm not sure Alford would want to go there.

I'd think Tim Miles would be not only more likely to go, but Nebraska would also be a better destination for a coach like Alford.

But who knows?

Steve Alford is the last thing PSU needs while they are still recovering from the Sandusky Scandal both financially and image wise. You don't want to hire a guy who left the mess at Iowa involving serial rapist Pierre Pierce who was given a Second Chance only to prove to everyone what he really was. That would be enough in and of itself to set back the School's Image and Recovery by several years.

PSU could hire Rick Pitino. He could have affairs in public with the ladies in the office, and then hire prostitutes for the players and recruits.

Why would PSU want to downgrade their coach? Alford should just stick with a mid major like Indiana State, IUPUI or IPFW.

Alford at Ball State, IU, or Butler would be as good as Alford could ask for to use his Indiana roots and name for recruiting purposes while relocating back in-state.

Does Penn State who had a JoPa recognition day since then and has his son on the BOT care about image?

ALL evidence is to the contrary. Not a big believer in logic, are you?

I am aware of his track record, but I believe he could have been successful in Btown 20 years ago based solely on his ability to recruit the best of the best. His ties and legend were deep and wide. The Iowa mess was a terrible mistake, but I don't believe that it was a result of the deep character issues that many do.

Alford's success at New Mexico was entirely his own and if he can find that recipe again he will do well again.

If he goes to the Big Ten, I'd think Nebraska would be a great fit for him.

At PSU you have to recruit Philly against a good number of basketball schools.

But Alford may also fit in a league like the AAC where there is good basketball but room to grow without being loaded down by heavyweight schools.

Yawn. Even comparing the two (Sandusky and pierre pierce situation) is asinine. There have been numerous coaches do 10X worse than Alford did in that situation who still coach and who have been brought up, oddly enough, as prospective IU coaches.

"Nobody eats their own like IU" I don't get the Alford hate, never have.

Try thinking beyond like and hate - which are just childish emotions that cause a cognitive bias..

Then maybe you see why he's not respected much as a coach, even though he commands the highest level of respect as a player.

He "recruited the best of the best" at UCLA (Seven 5 stars & eleven 4 stars). That didn't work out so well.

I've watched that team this year a couple of times. Definitely not "the best of the best", unless you are counting poofey hair, in which case they only rival our Hoosiers.

Only UK and Duke and maybe Kansas recruited more talent in that time period.

7th rated class in 18, 4th in 17, 5th in 16, 20th in 15, 6th in 14.. Five top 20 classes in a row, 4 first round pro picks..

No coach did less with more in the last five seasons. Unless of course he just had the worst luck ever and all five of his classes and only his classes were overrated.

There's a reason he was fired midseason. He basically deserved to be.

And I doubt very much your hair looked as good at that age. lol .. and we're talking about Alford who had a hairspray helmet for a hairstyle in his youth.

If SA wanted the Penn State job, would think Penn State would hire him yesterday. Not saying would be the BEST candidate, but doubtful they could land a BIGGER NAME than SA.

However, I doubt he wants a job with that many hurdles...kinda like IU football.

IF he still wants to coach, I'm guessing a Mountain West or MVC with some tradition.

He’s had the best of the best at UCLA with 20 years more coaching experience & look what he did...lol

I agree in part. This year, I hold in exception. I agree he did less with more at least a couple of times but this year they have a bunch of losers on the team.

I'd be surprised if any big ten team hired him after Iowa.

I'm not even talking about the PP baggage.

The big ten isn't a conference that's going to hire a coach that already failed in the conference...unless the AD is a 50 some year old IU fan.
