Pretty much down to us and MSU for Jefferson

What's sad is not IU losing on on yet another QB, but MSU's heavy handed approach without any regard for what is best for the kid. Obviously, MSU told the kid he was not allowed to visit IU if he wanted to keep his MSU offer. Too bad the kid didn't tell MSU to pound salt like he probably should have.

Or maybe Jefferson, who was on the MSU campus yesterday with a group of committed and yet to commit recruits made up his mind and decided to commit to MSU. Dantonio and his staff informed each of the uncommitted recruits that only three scholarships are left in their 2018 class, and it would be first come first serve.

MSU is looking to add one WR, one defensive linemen, and one athlete with the potential to play on either side of the ball. They invited three defensive linemen for OV this weekend. Two accepted (Jordan Allen, Tennessee Pututao) and one backed out Friday (Chris Oats). MSU is pushing hard for WR Tommy Bush's verbal.

One could obviously make the argument that he didn't want to waste his or the IU staffs time by stringing them along when he had no further interest in IU.

I was surprised that he selected MSU because they were upfront with him that they were not looking at him as a potential QB.

Kids should go wherever they really want to go, it is their life, but telling a kid there are only 3 schollies left is really forcing their hand to make a decision without “all” the information. Who knows, if he visits Btown and considers all aspects, academics, playing QB etc. , maybe the decision is different. That said, he likely wanted to go to MSU all along and made the decision he was going to make anyway.

What information was withheld from Jefferson or any of these prospects? They were all informed of the limited number of scholarships remaining.

In Jefferson's case Dantonio had told him that they were not going to consider him for the QB position. Jefferson expressed interest in studying mechanical/aerospace engineering. He is aware that MSU offers a Mechanical Engineering program, but not a full fledged aerospace program. The athletes are shown the Clara Bell Academic Center, as well as all the athletic facilities. What other information does an individual need?

Is your argument that IU hadn't been given the opportunity to show him what they had to offer both academically and athletically?

Considering Jefferson had been on recruiting trips to other colleges (UCF for one) he did have something to compare. Did jefferson ever take an unofficial visit to IU? If he did he probably had the opportunity to make a valid comparison between IU and any other program he was considering.

Didn't IU receive a verbal from a highly rated RB in their 2018 class that also had an offer from MSU? Was his hand forced by IU? Did he receive "all" the information? I'm going to go out on a limb and say no, and that he made the best decision for him.

Which is exactly what I said about Jefferson, or can’t you read ? My only point was, without VISITING IU, he didn’t have all the information. How could he ? Could he compare facilities, campus life, academic support etc ?
As I said, he probably committed where he really wanted to go all along , and ultimately that is what recruits should do, hope he does well except when you play us.
