Playing 4 on 5 with Cupps.

So why wasnt X on the floor today. Reason 1 why Cupps should play. The team has won 1 game since X came back. Reason 2 why Cupps should play. X is uncontrollable and uncoachable. Reason 3 Cupps should play. X is gone after year 6, no need for him to improve. Reason 4 why Cupps should play. After 6 years he still is allowed to cause trouble. Reason 5 why Cupps should play. Cupps needs the playing time and will get better for it. X cant stay in the game long enough to get the playing time you want him to get. Reason 6 why Cupps should play. One is straight up bad news, the other is not. Reason 7 why Cupps should play. Need more, theres plenty.
Those facts are rather irrefutable, but they’re only valid if you believe GC is the future. I’m not sure he’s much more than a solid 4-year backup at this point. If there was ever a case for being “recruited over,” this might be the time.

Not sure what toxic IU nation is. The fans have shown up all year, including NYC and ATL, despite us being awful. I don’t know what more can be expected from fans when we are about the worst in the B1G and ranked 90+ in the country despite all our NIL and focus on bball.
It comes with the die hard brand. Same as UK really. Short leash and they come for blood. I am right there. I said all year, if we miss the tourney woody should be fired.

And some also think he as good as Braden Smith. Or as good as freshman Braden Smith - which he clearly is not.
There is a good chance he will never develop into a starter level player. Nothing he has done this year shows he should be on the court for IU. Sadly, he is the best option we have. That again, was done this offseason, and probably will be the reason Woodson is not our coach next year.

I was comparing what could be with some coaching verses what is now. But in all reality there is no future with our current coaching staff for this team moving beyond what we have seen playing out. Cupps may not be the answer, but X has proved this team is no better off with him and his antics or great attributes.

Today was a perfect example. Cupps played his usual game. Low risk, low reward. He had 2 pts and no assists in 33 mins. His counterpart, Baldwin, had 22 points and 8 assists while playing relentless defense for 40 mins. You MUST have dynamic guards to win.
Again, not Cupps’ fault that he was thrown into this.

right, like when he took the team to the tourney his first year with TJD. Did you become a fan this year? First time you have seen him play?

Cav…X is the kind of player that Knight’s teams abused. He’s not the answer either. We have an assistant coach or two that also need new homes. Is X the problem with this team? No. Is he the answer in his 6th year? No. Should have cut bait before last year.

There may not be another program in this country that would maintain the attendance and ratings that IU has under the circumstances

IU fans are just different

He's doing fine playing a lot more minutes than most freshmen guards play. Tom Coverdale was terrible as a freshman.

I think TJD had more to do with the positives that were accomplished than X. He had about 3 good games that helped get us in that tournament. But the trip to the tourney was a fluke and was proved by the ensuing massacre that took place. Against St Marys X stepped up and made 3 of 8 shooting ( no 3s) with 5 turn overs. Stellar. But, if you think it was his play that moved the team forward so be it. Ive seen him play as much as you, and if what he has done for this team overall is what you want to use as an example of what is needed moving forward, your evaluation of what a D1 team player is supposed to bring to the table is extremely flawed. Cupps agreed to come and play at IU. No one else would. Will he be the answer? I dont know. Its his first year playing on a bad team with a bad coach. X is a 6 year player and still making 8th grade mistakes on and off the court. Cupps can be coached along with the right people in place. But lets ride out the season with him on the bench and let X go out leading the team as only he can. As I have said before, you like him, I dont, wont and cant wait for him to be gone.

As I recall (I could be wrong), RMK did not give Coverdale a chance. So to say that he was terrible is a big stretch. When Davis turned him loose, he was great.

True. But he gave Mike Lewis a chance. Guyton. Bailey. Sherron Wilkerson. Neil Reid. Buckner. Isiah. Alford. Lots of freshmen guards played big minutes under Knight.

And they’re all Indiana/Midwest bball players. Actually I think that particular list is made up of players from IN and IL. Although I don’t think Reed was born in IN, but did play two years of HS bball in IN.

He doesn't do much but he doesn't hurt us either. CJ, almost every time he comes in there's breakdowns on both ends. Not bashing on him, just pointing it out.
If I saw this correctly right after Gunn came in in the first half a Penn state player drove right past Him because He was out of position. A couple plays later, Hr had his back turned to the ball and a penn state player drove the lane right behind Him. I cringed when He came into the Game in the first half with Us leading. Every time He is on the floor, our Offense stagnates and We hit a drought

Of course. I only mention that because in your support for Cupps, you said that Coverdale was “terrible” as a freshman. He wasn’t terrible. He never had a chance to play. If he would have played as a freshman in that game yesterday, I’ll bet he would have done much better than 2 points and no assists in 33 minutes.

He gave Coverdale a chance….he didn’t take it.
