When did it become okay for ostensibly serious journalistic outfits to publish crap like this? The press corps knew full well about JFK and MLK's infidelity in the 60's. It never hit the pages of a newspaper because it was irrelevant, tabloid nonsense. It would've been beneath them. Was it Anita Hill? Bill Clinton? When did the press stop being serious?
In the real world, if Tim Kaine berated Hegseth on the basis of his personal life like he did in that hearing, he would have his ass beat and rightfully so. But yet it's okay in a confirmation hearing.

Any flag officer, any officer, period, would be removed from his job an be discharged for doing what Hegseth did in Monterey. Guaranteed. Hegseth may have a situation like that on his watch as SecDef. What decision does he make? Be a hypocrite but make the right decision or make the wrong decision and cover it up?

Not guaranteed. Not at all. The extramarital sexual conduct clause of Article 134 is rarely enforced as a standalone offense to the point of discharge. Especially if it is kept under wraps as it would have been in Hegseth's case had he not been nominated for SecDef. My second paragraph is reality. Schiff needs an ass beating.

Guaranteed. Once there was a police report and it was found that he was married to his second wife and his future third wife was two months pregnant, the officer would be toast. There wouldn't be any NDA between them. His boss, whoever it was, would pull the "Loss of Confidence to Lead" card and slap it on the table. Career over, period. We have an example of that on the base here. The Base Commander was removed from command for an affair. Career over. I was a legitimate fence-sitter regarding Hegseth. Probably leaning toward non-approval.
After watching some of his hearing, (and Bondi’s hearing) and reading crap like that link, I’m convinced Hegseth should be confirmed. The Democrats and other assorted never-Trumpers are making absolute fools of themselves with the ongoing stream of irrelevant opposition drivel. I don’t want a sec-def whom these people would support.
Not that Hegseth is the ideal candidate. He may not be. But we will never know because his opposition is so meaningless.
Austin is awful. Not a forceful person at al when he needed to be. Should have either forced Biden to change the plan to withdraw from Afghanistan, or handed in his resignation. The silent escape for major surgery is inexcusable.
Sometimes a nominee isn't good and isn't worth supporting. The only ones I don't think should be confirmed are Hegseth, Patel, RFK Jr. and Gabbard - though I'm sure some will be. Of course, Gaetz, which was a joke from the start. All the others are OK. Some are really good.
I don’t fully understand your position. You have been a pretty strong defender of the FBI through the biginning of the Trump administration notwithstanding the HQ being a cesspit of affairs and sexual misconduct. Lisa Page, the highest ranking FBI lawyer, was sleeping with at least one, and maybe two of the people whom she was directly or indirectly advising. Those affairs affected her ability to provide objective advice and I believe she should have been disbarred.
Along comes Hegseth who had an affair disconnected from his job and you want to throw the book at him.
Why does the FBI get a pass?
Because that's exactly what happens in the military. The standards are high and expected to be adhered to. The SecDef is expected to set the example and enforce the standards. How can anyone expect him to do that since he didn't live to the standards?
Sure, it applies to every officer. The SecDef is the actual civilian leader of the entire military. He's in the operational chain of command and the Joint Chiefs are not.

You are wrong. The infidelity rate in the armed forces is astronomical. As high as 22%. If they were as stringent as you saying maintaining a cohesive force would be untenable. You are wrong.

And there are plenty of support roles that engage in combat.
Pete is talking about 11B - Infantry - MOS. And he's right. Standards have been lowered to allow some women in that MOS, just as Ranger standards have been lowered over the years.
I don't know why he doesn't just say that - 95% of Americans agree with him on that. Ask our local Naval hero how many women end up pregnant on ships. Do we want pregnant women on the front lines now?
You're focusing on the wrong thing. A flag officer or any officer in command is held to the highest standards. Like the base commander here being fired for an affair with a civilian on the base being removed from command for "loss of confidence." Any flag officer who did what Hegseth did, don't forget the allegation of rape (and there would not be an NDA) and it come to light in a police report, would be removed, period. Can't run for responsibility and accountability like Hegseth is doing. You don't have a clue about this so STFU. Don't call me wrong when you're totally ignorant.

We don’t have to theorize about this. Hegseth admitted to infidelity during his first marriage in the divorce proceedings. He was a Captain at the time (that’s an officer FYI). He wasn’t kicked out.
Then he went back into service in 2019 as a Major (also an officer) after the 2017 incident.
You are wrong.
He was not active duty from 2014 to 2019. The alleged rape and all the ugly reality around it (still married, affair with future third wife he got pregnant, alleged rape with a police report). All that isn't tolerated of an officer in any sort of command. The officers working directly for Hegseth would be mostly flag officers in a command (all the combatant commanders, for example).
Crazy Mazie always asks that same question at every confirmation hearing. She considers it her thing.
