Pete Hegseth Secretary of Defense

@DANC i wouldn’t mind sponsoring you on this at some point. There’s a process for me to chaperone that’d be a privilege
So, we listened to this entire farce on the 9-hour drive to Georgia today. Obviously didn’t get the visuals, but based on what we could hear, Hegseth won the day. But, my God, the Dems on the committee totally soiled themselves. From Gillibrand to Warren to Kaine to the uber-loon from Hawaii the left totally embarrassed themselves.

Are these people insane? I’ll gladly and readily admit I hate leftist politicians but what I heard today was an embarrassment. I felt embarrassed that my country puts politicians such as this in positions of power.

The best laugh we had was when some senator stated that Hegseth didn’t have the experience of managing an organization with 3,000,000 “employees.” Who has?

I had some reservations about Hegseth, but after today he has my vote. The Pentagon needs to be shaken up. If anything, building back the Navy’s strength will happen. And the troops will be energized. He won’t get any Dem votes, except maybe Fetterman’s, but he’ll get every GOP vote.

I can’t believe I’m saying this but I thought Warren’s line of questioning was actually interesting. Better than the “You’re a drunk sexist and your non-profits sucked” that we heard from every other D senator.

She asked Hegseth to promise that he wouldn’t work for a defense contractor for ten years after serving as SecDef and he wouldn’t commit to it. That’s a major hypocrisy for a guy who is supposed to be the Anti - Military Industrial Complex candidate.

Granted she ruined it by referring to him as a general but Warren’s point was a good one and she caught him.

Fetterman was at mar a lago. The man is a one man band. Don’t like his politics but hard not to like him. I watched an hour of it around lunch. Our reps are an embarrassment and the notion that they’re stewards of our money is a joke. The Dems dumber than shit, including our nasa hero Kelly who was comically bad, all desperate for a gotcha over anything untoward they could drum up, and our pubs laser focused on woke with questions that served to do nothing more than solidify that we hate dei and crt. All dumb.

Maybe Greenland is the right idea. A new era of colonization to start over. Do better. No one wants to live on mars

You really think you’d like to live in Greenland? Seriously?

Assuming 836,330 square miles and approximately 57,000 residents, that’s 14.67 square miles per person.

Nobody lives there. Nobody wants to live there.

It’s worse than St. Louis.

Buy Australia. Hotter women.

No I hate cold weather. Australia would be amazing but at this point I’ll settle for somewhere south

Many of them aren't dumb. Instead of using this process to properly vet the candidate for the good of the nation, they are creating soundbites that will play well with their voters and "fire them up" so they can (1) up their chances of reelection and (2) ask for money.

It's embarrassing and infuriating but it's smart if you're interested in your own private goals and tribalism over the concept of making the nation a better place through intelligent, civil discourse.

That’s pretty damn cynical, but then I’m a classic cynic.

I guess it’s too much to hope that policy and issues should matter and be discussed.

By the way, anyone on this board who could, at any point in their lives, knock out 5 sets of 47 pushups in a session?
TBH, There's a bar in Manhattan just off Times square. They have themed shots. During one of them, you have to do 20 pushups. Me and a potential customer (who I took there) both ordered the drink. The bell rang, the bar got silent, he did his shot, me mine.
Then the order "face in the dirt and give me 20".
I was about 240 alcoholic, him 180 coke head.. I smoked his ass.

He never bought a GD thang from me and was fired 3 months later.
Rooster lollipop !

Thanks, but I think those honor flights are for those who can't make it there because of financials or some physical problems that don't allow them to go themselves.

Or those that were in theater. Although I was in during Viet Nam, I was never there. I wouldn't feel right going on one of those.

I'd rather you come to one of our IU tailgates and get shit-faced with me.

Agreed. I was disappointed in his answer.

In basic training, it was nothing to knock out mulitple sets of 50 pushups during a PT session. And, for grins, you'd get assigned 100 to 500 situps for forgetting your 'cover' (hat) or whatever the DI wanted to harass you with that day.

You got used to hearing "Drop and give me 50".

You know what the worse was for me? Having to run back to the barracks after meals. I never felt like running after eating.

It works. Someone here posted and celebrated the senator whose first question for him was "how many genders are there."

Disagree. They are highly partisan tribal dolts.

The worst are from the safest states. They will never lose an election. They are mentally lightweights whose purpose is the be performative political partisans.

Mostly agree but I don’t see any part of the performances being smart.

If you don't mind me asking, where were you stationed during Vietnam?

Yes, before my shoulders decided they couldn’t take it, but 47 is a weird number for a set. I thought maybe that was his age, but it isn’t. Maybe the 47th day of the year? No. Who does a set of 47 for anything? Just curious because it’s weird.

Trump is the 47th president. I can do that many push ups now. Bench press. Push ups crush it. It was always pull-ups that was a struggle. Bet I couldn’t do 5 right now

That’s an answer that makes sense. It does seem sycophantic though, doesn’t it? I never thought of doing sets of 48 or whatever my boss’s age was when I was active. Hell, I never cared what their ages were. ;)

My last couple years in the Navy I did push-ups twice a year for the semi-annual physical fitness test and I stopped at the minimum necessary to pass because each one was painful. Earlier in my career I’d do the number In two minutes necessary to get maximum points which I believe was 100 (it’s been a while). Age comes for us all. ;)

I realized the power of the push up during COVID. I have 25 lb DBs and a curl bar with 25 lb plates. I did a shit load of push ups and when I got back to the gym, I wasn’t nearly as far behind as I thought I would be.
Smart! That’s really all you need. I’m going to be screwed now. My elbow doesn’t look any better. I think I’m going to fall way behind
