Pat Coogan

Just saw that.

🤷🏻‍♂️
I’m torn. I will happily take Spindler, but we seem to be stacking IOL. If the staff believes he or Benson can bump outside then I like it even more. If not, for the money though, I would almost rather go after Camper and have one of the most dangerous receiving groups in the country… then again you can never have too many big uglies!

Benson played a little RT last time around... He's potentially versatile...

Is Rocco next?
From Sports Illustrated a few hours ago:

“The Michigan Wolverines are reportedly going to miss on two massive transfer portal targets, according to the latest reporting from On3. After missing out on Notre Dame transfer OL Pat Coogan on Friday, it now seems as though Michigan is out of the running for Rocco Spindler as well. The Notre Dame transfer OL is reportedly shutting down his visits, and he's yet to make the trip to Ann Arbor. However, Spindler has made visits to Indiana, Nebraska, Pitt and Virginia.

With Indiana landing Spindler's teammate on Friday, you've got to wonder if the Hoosiers are the team to beat for two former Notre Dame offensive linemen at this point.”

This year's roster looks loaded. Indiana is bringing back 3 AA on defense alone!! Offensively, they've added key additions in Mendoza, Coogan, several splashy WRs, the big Tennessee TE and Beebe at RB.

Indiana will show the Big Ten in their opener by thumping Illinois. Mendoza will have a monster season; I would put the floor at 8 wins. That said, I predict 10 wins and possibly a CFP spot.

This roster does appear better than last year's.

Unless something massive happens, he's not coming here.

Too bad... He looked like he could make our inside running game really tough to stop if teamed up with Coogan... It'd be nice if the movers and $hakers would direct even more of their financial interest in that intramural basketball group over towards the FOOTBALL TEAM...

To semi-paraphrase Patton, I'm betting Cignetti is looking at that basketball cash outlay and thinking:
"Give me that cash and I'll win recruiting battles with it..., I'll Win Games With It!" 😉🤣

Have we shown any interest at all in Zander's brother (the G from UNLV) or is he even still available in the Portal? If he has any actual talent he would seem to be able to add some quality OL depth on the inside (G/C)...

Then again..., if he's not better than the depth we already have I guess there's no point...

I now trust Cignetti and Bostad when it comes to personnel decisions implicitly, so no worries...

Iowa, Illinois fans and the rest think IU will take step back. The first 3 B1G games will tell us if this is true. So far I think our roster might be better than last year.
It is going to be hard to go 10-0 and 11-1 again. Look at o$i, Georgia and the likes.
If we go 9-3 or even 8-4 it does not necessarily mean we are "stepping back". Schedule always plays a big part. GoHoosiers

This is because of us, not him.

Well you are as good as it gets for sniffing it out if something is there, so I won’t get my hopes up. I’m pretty ecstatic with the make up of the roster anyway, but now I’m just feeling greedy.

I'd be shocked if we don't add more in the spring period.

We've already seen a couple kids jump in Johnson and Philostin. More will leave after camp.

Spindler finally has posted on X in a Nebraska uniform. There was a post in Zyn’s feed about UVA offering > $1M. Good thing Woody didn’t get in the bidding war for another over-payment.
I see where Rhule has cancelled their annual spring game with an explanation of; “no use with opponents having film to steal your plays.”

Smells like Nebby committed to matching or beating the best offer and Spindlers agent shopped it for as long as he could.

They must have been desperate for O-line help to pay what I tend to believe is 50-100% over market.

With next season's schedule, I think 9 wins is the floor. I expect Vegas to once again undervalue us and put us at like 7.5 wins for the O/U for next season. I pray they put us at 6.5, but I doubt they go that low. Here are my predictions:

NON CONFERENCE

Aug. 30 – Old Dominion WIN
Sept. 6 – Kennesaw State WIN
Sept. 13 – Indiana State WIN

CONFERENCE

Sept. 20 – vs. Illinois WIN
Sept. 27 – at Iowa TOSS UP
Oct. 11 – at Oregon LOSS
Oct. 18 – vs. Michigan State WIN
Oct. 25 – vs. UCLA WIN
Nov. 1 – at Maryland WIN
Nov. 8 – at Penn State LOSS
Nov. 15 – vs. Wisconsin WIN
Nov. 29 – at Purdue WIN

Since we have mostly filled out our roster at this point, I feel pretty confident about my picks. I think we have upgraded in the the portal and overachieved in retaining our top talent. Kamara went through Senior Day and was definitely going to get drafted if he went pro. Getting him to come back for one more season was bigger than any defensive upgrade we could have possibly gotten in the portal. Mendoza is an upgrade over Rourke, which is crazy to say since Rourke was outstanding. Coogan is the biggest prize on the Oline and he's a major upgrade at whatever position he plays. The rest of our holes have been filled with what seem to be very productive players who should at least maintain the level of play we saw on the field last season.

If we beat Iowa in Iowa City and go 10-2, I think we make the CFP again. Unless we get shellacked at both PSU and Oregon, 10-2 will probably be good enough to get into the CFP. Honestly, 10-2 should be good enough for B10 and SEC teams to make the playoffs each year with those 2 conferences clearly being the top dogs and producing the best teams. 9-3 is where the bubble talk will start imo. I think we can start getting used to at least being in the CFP discussion on a yearly basis as long as Cig is in charge.

I think you might be taking Illinois too lightly. That’s a toss up.

Well, they are his predictions.

When you phrase it the way you did, “that’s a toss up”, it’s you saying the OP is wrong. Maybe that’s what you’re wanting to say?

If it’s someone’s predictions, they can’t be wrong. The outcomes may not ultimately be what’s predicted, but he can certainly predict it.

You saying it’s a toss up is your prediction.

Agree with most of what you said, but I’m reluctant to say “Mendoza is an upgrade over Rourke”. When I heard Rouke went through the entire season without an ACL, he became one of my top 3:Hoosiers of all time. When given 1/2 second longer than either o$u or no-dames, he was as good as any qb in the country.
I will happily eat my words if Mendoza is better. But when considering what Rourke was able to accomplish, I’m hopeful for what Mendoza brings, but not ready to say “better”.

Hence starting the sentence with the phrase 'I think'. From there, I THINK there's some logical conclusions you can make about the rest of the statement in that it is MY OPINION that the Illinois game is a toss up.

I can understand the hesitation. With that being said, I am pretty sure Mendoza was the most sacked QB in the NCAA last year and yet he still passed for more yards than Rourke. So he had a much worse OL which doesn't guarantee anything, but it does intrigue me to wonder what he might be able to do with the IU OL and the weapons he will have around him. I wouldn't make any promises but I am highly interested in finding out.
