The refs helped Ky and Duke. Cheaters do prosper.
I don't think Duke got help. UCF blinked and lost their opportunity

UCF got screwed. Period. Zion with the forearm push off.
The push off at the rebound
and the no call at the last layup that was called all game long.
What a screw job
Duke's Freshmen are better than the everybody else's Juniors and Seniors. Freshman Zion will be the NBA's #1 Draft Pick. Not a less talented but more experienced Senior. You may want to check Duke's results versus UNC this year. They have an amazing collection of talent, but I think they are vulnerable with so many freshmen. Several teams (UK, UNC, FSU, TENN, Gonzaga, and UVA among them) all have the talent to beat them if they aren't careful and don't raise their game.
UCF threw a pass away trying for the ESPN highlight film dunk and got egg on their face with a loss instead. It was a stupid play by a team not used to winning, so it didn't. They tried to throw the dagger at Duke and stabbed themselves instead.I don't think Duke got help. UCF blinked and lost their opportunity
I've seen Duke get plenty of calls in the NCAAT over the years, but yesterday's loss is on UCF. The poor decision on the alley-oop (when they could have killed clock and probably forced Duke to foul), then the drive by Zion where Fall should have just let him score but fouled instead. Instead of having the ball up one, Fall fouled out and put Zion on the line with a chance to tie. When he missed the free throw, the UCF player just walked to the rim and let Duke grab the offensive rebound for the putback. Even if the kid was pushed in the back, had he stepped up the lane as he should have, the ball would have fallen to him and the Duke player would have had to commit a hard and obvious foul to get an offensive rebound.UCF threw a pass away trying for the ESPN highlight film dunk and got egg on their face with a loss instead. That did not have 80% chance of success more like 0% to 20%. Turned out it was 0%. And a stupid play by UCF with the time remaining in the game and a 4 point lead. As soon as he missed the alley-oop, I thought Duke will win now. And they did.I'm actually ok with that play. Even though it was a potential highlight play, it probably still had 80%+ chance of success. Based off spacing of the players it was a good fast break play (driving player was cut off from the basket, while the trailing player had an open lane), so its not like it was a 360 dunk which serves no strategic purpose.
The only possible criticism is if it was too late in the game where the clock matters more than points. But, there was still 2 min left in the game and UCF was up only 4 points, so too soon to try to kill time for the sake of killing time.
The options were: 1) fast break alley oop with 80% chance of success, while leaving 1:55 on the clock, 2) fast break pull up jumper with 50% chance of scoring with 1:55 left on the clock, 3) slowing down and running an offensive set with a 40% chance of scoring leaving around 1:35 on the clock.
I'd go with option 1 every time. If the game were under 1:30, I'd go with option 3 and use up clock.
Id go with option 3 every time, and set up a play in which you save for these end of game moments where you either score or get fouled with a high percentage FT shooter going to the FT line. Now its an 80% or better play. And time has run off the clock.I'm actually ok with that play. Even though it was a potential highlight play, it probably still had 80%+ chance of success. Taco should have been fouled out several minutes earlier on a butcher job on Zion that was not called.I've seen Duke get plenty of calls in the NCAAT over the years, but yesterday's loss is on UCF. Give Duke credit for this one, they made huge plays. So did UCF until the end. They gave Duke an opportunity to steal the game and the Blue Devils did. The last shot and missed tip were heartbreakers, but shouldn't have been needed.
Zion should have been gone with 10 minutes to go.Taco mauled Zion and should have fouled out several minutes earlier.
