OT: USA vs France Women’s Basketball Gold Medal Game

25-25 at the half. Teams combined for 3-21 from 3 and 19-68 total FG’s for an impressive 27.9% average. 50 total combined points. Anyone making an argument this should be treated the same as the men’s game from a business / salary perspective is lost. Tough to watch. Hopefully US can pull it out and match China gold medal count.

No idea why Griner only played 5 minutes. She scored two baskets in a row and then sat the rest of the game. It was pretty ugly.

Honestly have no idea if the differences between WNBA and FIBA are in any way similar to the NBA and FIBA?

If they are, Clarke might have struggled a little bit with the physicality of the games. Early in the WNBA season, when Clarke was being roughed up a little more than she had been lately, before the Olympics break, she struggled a little more. There are only a handful of total games in the Olympics, not sure there would have been enough time for CC to adjust to the style?

Its one of the main reasons why the men's team relied so heavily on their older stars, I would think...And maybe one of the reasons Curry was pretty bad for the first 4-5 games.

Mainly plays around it with movement, a quick release and gawdy range... Hmmm, remind you of anyone in the women's game you might describe that way? Clarke's a player. She may never be as dominant in the WNBA (or on the Olympic Team) as she was in college, but I'm confident she's an asset for either.

But Curry is an established veteran, that has already been through numerous adaptions in his game...to get to the point where he still struggled adapting to the international game, and finally "found it"...thankfully!...

Its not an absurd notion that the decision makers on the women's side were wary of how Clarke would handle the differences in style. And then the scrutiny that would have came with her not playing if she didn't handle it well.

And they had LLoyd, Ionescu, Stewart, etc...its not like they were void of outside shooting.

To be fair, it was probably really good for CC to have the time off and get rest for the playoff push and giver her time to recover. She has not had much time off in about a full year, so the rest and recovery time should be beneficial

That all might be true about Clarke but I would put Ogunbowale up against most of the Olympic team and definitely over Taurasi.
